Arlington County is seeking an energetic and experienced Nurse to provide quality assurance leadership to clinical public health staff in the Public Health Division (PHD). This Nurse Manager/Quality Assurance is responsible for providing direction primarily to clinical, both nursing and non-nursing, staff on achieving and maintaining quality as appropriate. The Nurse Manager/Quality Assurance is an integral member of both the division's management team and the department's extended management team and, therefore, plays a key role in guiding all staff in integrating PHD and DHS programs to meet customer needs. This position will coordinate with the Department's Quality Assurance Manager and will participate as a member of the Department's Quality Assurance team. This employee a strategic partner in emergency preparedness for public health.
The PHD is locally administered by Arlington County and is under contractual obligation to provide the services provided by the other 34 health districts within the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) system. The Division has a $21 + million budget and 180 + talented staff all focused on the departmental mission of making a real difference in people's lives by promoting and providing outstanding human services
Services provided to the public by the Public Health Division include: •Direct services including immunizations, family planning, maternity, ADAP, WIC, dental care, refugee screening and referral, and tuberculosis care; •Enforcement of Federal, State and local laws and regulations for environmental health issues, including food safety and water recreation facilities; •Identification, investigation and/or mitigation of communicable disease outbreaks; •School health clinic services; •Preventive and health education services to program participants and to the general public; and •Advocacy for Arlington's public health interests in regional, state and national workgroups, committees or organizations.
A Bachelor's degree in Nursing; and
A Master's degree in Public Health or similar such as Public Health Nursing, Nursing Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or directly related field; and progressively responsible program management experience in public health, community health or related area to include considerable experience in providing clinical nursing services as a Registered Nurse (RN), reviewing & formulating public health policy and services, and administering public health programs.
Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following: •Public health or community health experience at the local level; •Supervisory experience in community or public health; •Identifying and implement nursing practice standards as well as laws and regulations (e.g., HIPPA) and to develop appropriate policies and procedures; •Program experience involving diverse populations, clients with low incomes and/or disabilities similar to those served by DHS; •Performance assessment and continuous process improvement; •Assessing quality and compliance with established guidelines for clinical practice (nursing and non-nursing); and/or •Training in emergency management systems such as Incident Command System (ICS).
