Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe House Advisor (HA) is a 12-month live-in professional who is responsible for the overall administration of two houses of approximately 400 residents total during the academic year. HAs are responsible for working on college-wide and departmental endeavors, and partnering with residential faculty members in an effort to provide comprehensive support for students. The Director of Residential Life supervises the House Advisors.
This particular HA position will have the collateral assignment that involves house related tasks such as assignments and assignment processes. Student Leader Mentorship and Advising
Recruit, select, train, and evaluate selected student leadership team
Attend and advise weekly House Team and Student Fellow meetings
Conduct regularly scheduled one on one's with student leaders (President, Student Advisor, Student Fellows)
Design and implement training sessions for student leader trainings
Student Conduct Engagement
Serve as a Student Conduct Administrator
Implement conduct processes in an educational and proactive manner
Interpret and uphold college rules and regulations pertaining to student conduct occurring within the houses
Refer students to campus offices related to exhibited behaviors
Take on leadership role among House Advisors for management of housing related matters in conjunction with the Director of Housing
Participate in departmental and area decision making and planning through weekly meetings
Work in collaboration with college-wide offices
Provide coverage for houses/campus during large-scale campus programs and situations
Work collaboratively with the central Office of Residential Life to complete and monitor housing of residents within cluster
Oversee the daily operations of house cluster
Participate in opening and closing of houses
Work in collaboration with the Residential Operations Center and Buildings and Grounds personnel
Respond to and assist students and families in their understanding of college policies and regulations.
Oversee budget for each house in cluster in collaboration with residential faculty
Other duties as assigned. Community Development
Work collaboratively with residential faculty members to create inclusive living communities that are socially conscious, responsible, and empowering
Establish a sense of community with individual students through the support of house and campus wide programming.
Serve as a resource and referral agent for students' holistic needs (social, emotional, academic, etc.)
Engage with students individually and in groups to enhance growth and development.
Serve as mediator for roommate and resident conflicts.
Serve as Administrator on Call on a rotating basis
Manage crisis situations such as mental health emergencies, facilities emergencies, wellness checks, including appropriate community responses
Complete crisis and on-call reporting processes
Refer students to campus and external offices related to crisis management.
This position is subject to annual review and appointment for the upcoming year with a maximum duration of five years. The starting date for the position is July 1, 2018. Compensation includes a competitive salary and benefits package including apartment and meal plan while classes are in session.
Qualifications Master's degree required, preferably in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field. Prior student affairs experience and knowledge of identity development theories preferred. Must have the ability to act independently and to interact effectively with a diverse college community. Must maintain a professional and flexible problem solving demeanor, during sometimes stressful situations.
