Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field from an accredited college or university. One year of experience in a laboratory at a university, college or experience in a related area. Foundational knowledge of chemistry and standard and specialized laboratory equipment and maintenance preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Performs under supervision, a wide variety of routine and technical tasks including maintaining and operating a laboratory for the Texas Research Institute for Environmental Studies (TRIES).
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Interprets and applies routine but moderately complex directives requiring limited judgment and ordinary attention and care to tasks such as, but not necessarily limited to, supervising student personnel, scheduling, establishing procedures, maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, equipment maintenance and repair, sanitation, security, and compliance with university and government procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), accepted Industry and Regulatory standards, rules and regulations. Assists and interacts with answering questions or providing information to students, staff, and faculty. Sets up equipment for analysis, calibrates instruments, and prepares standard solutions and reagents for use in chemical analyses. Maintains proper storage, inventory, and expiration dates of chemicals. Collects samples and conducts field sampling and field measurements. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and conducts professional level quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses. Conducts proficiency tests of laboratory personnel for quality control of the testing program. Assists in auditing lab records to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
