We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Practitioner with the Department of Psychiatry.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for evaluation and care of subject participants enrolled in research studies within the department. Specific responsibilities will be in the context of guidelines described for each study protocol.
Reviews customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic results per study protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with the collaborating principal investigator.
Works collaboratively with the principal investigator(s) and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care after study completion that maximizes individual preference and enhances quality, access, and management.
Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges.
Considers needs and behaviors of specific subject age and cultural groups in all patient care.
Ensures the protection of study participants by timely adherence to protocol requirements/compliance.
Documents any interaction regarding the study participant that occurs while the subject is enrolled on a protocol, including follow-up on adverse events.
Provide treatment education.
Maintains subject confidentiality according to ethical and legal requirements.
Adheres to appropriate Standard Operating Procedures.
Responsible for assuring adherence to protocols on which the study participant is enrolled.
Consents study participants to research study.
Responsible for physical exam and vital sign monitoring.
Administers psychiatric assessments.
Reviews the study design and inclusion/exclusion criteria with PI and study participant.
Ensure that follow-up appointments, scans, or any related procedures are scheduled correctly according to protocol requirements;
Complete case report forms;
Filing serious adverse event reports after appropriate clinical management and informing principal investigator or delegate.
Dispensing study medications to study participants if needed.
Attends staff meetings and teleconferences and weekly study status meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned.
To qualify you must have a
Licensure: Registration as a Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse in New York State; DEA
Education: Masters degree in Nursing; Board certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Competence: Relevant nursing practice in the care of the patient population served including knowledge of psychopharmacology; ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion, which addresses patient/family safety and satisfaction. Previous experience as a nurse practitioner is preferred. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving and excellent critical thinking and leadership. Previously demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes and work cohesively and collaboratively as member of the interdisciplinary team. Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities. Ability to work in an independent manner under minimum supervision.
Required Licenses: Nurse Practitioner-NYS, Registered Nurse-NYS, DEA
Previous experience as a nurse practitioner in a research setting is preferred.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
