The USS Specialist is responsible for staff duties associated with the One Card Office and the supervision and operation of Media Services during the evenings and special times as needed. The individual will assist in the operational duties of the One Card Office. The individual also supports media and audiovisual activities, and the operation of public area computers. The individual maintains accurate inventory control and implements inventory policies and procedures; maintains office supplies; tabulates and prepares statistics; and contacts vendors for repairs and services. The individual should effectively communicate technical issues related to equipment and report and resolve issues as they arise.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the operational duties of the One Card Office.
Provide support for the delivery, set-up, breakdown and retrieval of equipment related to presentations across campus.
Assist users with related audiovisual and computer equipment.
Supervise, manage, and train work-study students.
Notify appropriate staff through helpdesk procedure of equipment failures and issues.
Provide support for PC and Macintosh computers and related software and hardware, including printers and peripherals.
Provide first level technical support for the university's One Card System; resolve issues, troubleshoot and conduct preventative maintenance related to the One Card System.
Deploy, troubleshoot, operate, and retrieve equipment while maintaining inventory and equipment for next use.
Assist with the development and implementation of media systems, including design and preparation for installation, and installation.
Operate of cameras, audio equipment, lecture halls, auditoriums, and technology classrooms and have ability to assist students, faculty, staff and guests in using projection, computer, speakers, cameras and other equipment.Have knowledge of PC and Macintosh operating systems.
Serve as first level of response to problems involving lab computers, printers, and network.
Assist students, faculty, staff, and guests using computer facilities and in resolving software questions.
Assist with setups of computers and projectors, especially in the evening hours and maintenance of the same, including cleaning and inventory.
Troubleshoot issues with network connectivity and provide assistance with removing laptops from isolation.
Provide first level customer service for the university's One Card System, particularly the generation of Salve ID Cards, for university patrons.
Provide daily One Card System support to campus community by ensuring that the equipment is maintained, material stock is available and all vendor software is monitored.
Ensure that policies and procedures are followed regarding the usage of computers, software, and printers.
Supervise and perform general and specific duties of lab operations, including opening and closing of USS.
Check inventory of laptops, projectors, cameras, and other equipment daily.
Provide statistical data regarding set-ups of equipment.
Ensure that adequate supplies are on hand and place orders when necessary with the proper approval.
Maintain organization of supplies and equipment.
Supervise, train, and evaluate work-study student monitors.
Maintain accurate inventory and warranty information for equipment and repairs.
Establish organized work areas and properly maintain equipment.
Maintain daily recording and updates of assigned Helpdesk tickets.
Manage tasks and other project assignments as allocated.
Report missing and/or damaged equipment.
Provide exceptional customer service to members of the university community and guests.
Maintain close communication with the Media Services Manager and other USS staff members on setup schedules.
Participate in professional development. Share information gathered through conference attendance, training, and R&D with supervisor and other IT staff members.
Document initiatives and changes regarding policies, procedures and manuals.
Ensure the proper use of equipment by students, faculty, staff and guests.
Record and communicate problems to the proper personnel.
Be informed about the student recommended laptop program and related customer service.
Contact appropriate staff in cases of emergency outages related to power or network.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in scheduled events including open house, orientations, and tours.
Work closely with all Information Technologies staff members and users to ensure consistent and effective service.
Assist students, faculty, and staff in utilization of multimedia equipment.
Maintain and update documentation, manuals, how-to's, and policies and procedures.
Assist with software installation as requested by faculty and staff in conjunction with IT staff.
Perform and/or delegate repairs on computers and equipment, such as swapping hardware components.
Participate in conducting training workshops.
Perform other duties as requested.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT
Certification in repair for specific vendors on computer equipment may be required.
Valid driver's license.
Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, or related technical field. Certification in AV and/or computer related software or hardware a plus.
Experience in an academic environment a plus.
Proven supervisory experience, preferably with college-age individuals.
Experience in technical skills, particularly utilization of audio and video hardware and software, computers including Microsoft Windows and Mac OS, related peripherals, including scanners, and printers. Capable troubleshooting skills a must.
Experience in latest software packages including Microsoft Office, browsers and plug-ins.
Additional software knowledge preferable in iMovie, Camtasia, Final Cut Pro and faculty requested applications.
Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
Experience with multimedia development software.
Experience with audio and video-capturing software is preferred.
Experience in conducting software-training workshops is preferred.
Strong oral and written communication skills required with the ability to serve a wide variety of people including students, faculty, staff, and guests.
Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
