Under the general supervision of the Director of Clinical Improvement coordinates and supervises the daily activities of the clinical data collection, abstraction and analysis to support the system-wide approach for all publicly reported data; is the liaison for clinical and operations improvement data and analysis for the system, in collaboration with the PI/Operations Research staff and Project Knowledge staff, as appropriate. Provides technical expertise, coaches and job functions related to data management including database/data administration, quality assurance of integrity of collection, reporting and analysis. Formulates and defines scope and objectives based on an exemplary understanding of improvement science, applicable business requirements to support the business strategies, strategic vision and goals of the System. Management of departmental nursing, clinical and data professionals, who support system-wide clinical and operational improvement activity, compliant data collection, appropriate data mining and use of clinical data and improvement analytics. Directly or indirectly managing all hospital Entities publically reported and registry data and related data analysis and reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1 Manages the WellSpan Clinical Improvement (CI) department to ensure complete and accurate data collection, timely workflow and successful completion of objectives. Fosters behaviors and initiates meetings and contacts throughout the corporation with the CI staff that support effective, safe, coordinated, patient-centered, standardized and efficient care for our patients.
2 Manages a system-wide approach to the collection; analysis and reporting of all publicly reported data / information, inclusive of The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) measures, STS, ACC, GWTG and other external registries, CMS Core Measures, Hospital Meaningful Use, Value Based Purchasing, etc.
3 Key team contributor in defining information system strategy in support of clinical data management strategies, inclusive of dashboard design.
4 Leads and manages activities of clinical data abstraction and analysis team. Promotes professional development through coaching, assists others in the utilization of data collection and analysis tools; oversees the reporting of all clinical compliance measures including, but not limited to,
5 Leads and Coordinates with Service Lines/ Departments for clinical and operational improvement projects. Provides direct support for clinical effectiveness activities including coaching /teaching operational definitions, methodologies/tools for data collection, analytic support and general preparation of clinical effectiveness project leaders in improvement science. Serves as subject matter expert/coach for VPMAs, and CETs to develop clinical objectives, agenda logistics, implementation plans defining of appropriate measurement and data collection methodologies.
6 Develops comparisons of clinical performance / outcome measures results to benchmark, identifying trends, completing barrier analysis and supporting system leadership to identify activities to reach performance goals
7 Identifies information needs, develops reports and provides recommendations to WellSpan governance, administrative, clinical and medical leadership for quality improvement
8 Plans and coordinates implementation of data collection and management systems, including completion of workflow analysis and establishment of benchmarks for determining successful completion of project(s), as needed., and all related staffing production metrics and associated due diligence.
9 Supports Senior Director Quality and Clinical Improvement, Senior VP Clinical Improvement and CPC initiatives.
Required Skills: 5-8 years data management and clinical/operational improvement experience with leadership/team experience
LEAN and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certification and/or CPHQ preferred
Healthcare systems and data analysis, proven use of data transformation tools, creation of custom reports, a strong understanding of relational database design; demonstrated clinical improvement experience.
Must be able to work well in a team environment as a member, manager and leader. Able to accept responsibility and accountability. Thorough knowledge of relevant specialty areas. Analytical and logical approach to solving problems. Clarity and discipline in communication skills- written and verbal. Capable of imaginative and abstract reasoning.
