To assist the Director of Athletics in the administration and operation for the development, implementation and maintenance of all external strategic initiatives and promotions as well as advertising that leads to increased visibility and revenue generation for WashU athletic events in ways consistent with the policies of WashU, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and other appropriate governing bodies (i.e. the University Athletic Association (UAA), College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW)).
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee / manage various unit leaders in the areas of revenue generation and increasing campus and community interest; including ticket sales (FB), online store sales, contracts, social media and event management.
External strategic initiatives direction:
Directs all external efforts for varsity sports. In conjunction with athletics staff and campus constituents, plans events to ensure success.
Guides social media presence.
Collaborates with campus and divisional communications staff to ensure all digital and print collateral, and in-game elements are visually and thematically consistent with departmental and university brand standards.
Oversees in-game promotions and manages an inventory of giveaway and promotional items.
Assists in implementation and execution of special events such as Parents Reception, Hall of Fame, and other fundraising events.
Campus and Community Outreach and Engagement: Develop and implement initiatives to increase student attendance and engagement at athletic events while working closely with Residence Life, Student Union, Student Organizations, and Alumni and Development. Implement community outreach programming to strategically develop support for athletic events.
Fan Experience: Responsible for fan experience at athletic events. Coordinate with event management, communications staff and facilities staff to ensure that the fan experience is a priority at all fan-friendly athletic events. Create a unique in-game fan experience that adds value to patrons in attendance while creating a home-field advantage for student-athletes. Plan, direct and execute game production efforts including music/band, promotions, cheer/dance/mascot, half-time acts, national anthem performers, and serve as point person for special recognitions.
Personnel Supervision and Budget: Oversee the departmental marketing and events budgets. ($150k) Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate student personnel. Serves as the liaison to the department’s cheer, mascot, band, and dance.

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sales, communication, sports management or a related field
Three years’ experience in collegiate athletics or comparable work in a sports related field
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Critical Skills & Expertise needed:
Thorough knowledge of the campus including its achievements, mission, values, goals, objectives and infrastructure
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong communication and political acumen skills
Thorough, strong project management skills
Outstanding interpersonal and public relations skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community and wide range of constituencies, including the corporate community and institutional marketing personnel
Fluency with both Mac and PC operating systems
Understand the nuances of game day presentation
Master’s degree in Sports Administration and five years’ experience in collegiate athletics
Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and video production
Former student – athlete
Base pay commensurate with experience.
