Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a per diem FGP Clinical Histology Technician, based in Huntington, Long Island.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for preparing tissue specimens for pathological examination.
Performs the following routine histologic procedures: Accessioning Grossing/Wrapping of specimens Embedding procedures Section techniques involving hematoxylin and eosin Routine special staining such as demonstration of mucopolysaccharides, tissue fibers, pigments, infectious organisms like bacteria and fungiCover Slipping Slide documentation.
Preparation of solutions required for any histological examination.
Helps maintain laboratory equipment.
Trains in the use of new laboratory equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree from an approved clinical laboratory technician program. A high school diploma will only be accepted if the individual has the designated experience defined by NYS and has obtained their NYS license through the grandparenting pathway defined by NYS. Six months of experience in a histology laboratory. Certification by the NYS Education Department as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Certified Histological Technician.
Preferred Qualifications: BS/BA in Science preferred; American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification as a Histology Technician (ASCP-HT) preferred.
