The University of Maryland, Baltimore Division of Cancer Epidemiology in the School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Supervisor. The position is responsible for providing the highest technical expertise to research programs and projects, as well as overseeing day to day clinical research activities and subordinate staff. The position develops, recommends, modifies, and implements policies and procedures for clinical research, as well as develop protocol manuals and data collection instruments.
The Division of Cancer Epidemiology conducts research to decrease cancer incidence and mortality. Research in the division aims to determine how the environment, behavior and genetics, alone and in combination, influence cancer risk and outcomes as well as to elucidate mechanisms underlying these associations, and to identify biomarkers of risk and outcomes.

Supervises assigned staff including training research staff and students; schedules and coordinates work of staff; monitors and evaluates staff performance.
Manages interaction process and practices with subject participants including eligibility screening, recruitment, enrollment, ensuring informed consent is properly secured and documented, counseling, and obtaining patient medical history. Oversees and maintains all study regulatory documents.
Using subject matter expertise, performs and directs research studies and project(s). Develops, recommends and implements policies, procedures, and/or methods for clinical research. Coordinates and develops in the design of protocol manuals, education materials, evaluation of data collection instruments, and training materials for subordinate staff.
Performs clinical research activities including data management (collection, entry, verification); data interpretation, and ensures compliance and clinical relevance of data. May conduct data analysis for report generation using SAS, STATA or R.
Searches relevant literature, develops conclusions on research findings, writes reports, prepare and deliver presentations of relevant findings and conclusions, and recommends appropriate actions. Conducts library research and contributes to the preparation and writing of research findings for publication of journal articles and grant proposals.
Performs Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) protocol development and ensures compliance of research operations with protocols.
Serves as liaison to other departments, outside organizations, government agencies, and product representatives to promote effective and efficient operation and use of resources.
In collaboration with the PI, designs new research studies and modified existing research studies to accomplish department objectives.
Directs and/or initiates facility recruitment; procure equipment and supplies; and interface with others to identify needs and issues related to the program, study, and/or project.
Perform administrative duties such as managing budget; ensuring compliance with quality control, security, and safety procedures; and assisting with contract negotiations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, psychology, health sciences or discipline appropriate to position required.
Experience: Five (5) years of related clinical research experience.
Supervisory: One (1) year of direct supervision or responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others.
Preferred Education: Master's degree in epidemiology or related field preferred.

Maintains productivity and uses strategies to increase knowledge base. Skill in continuously seeking to improve the quality of services and processes.
Ability to take a lead role in performing and directing various advanced, routine, and maintenance procedures. Ability to perform independent projects and to serve as a consultant in area of technical specialty. Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments. Skill in statistical programming, interpretation and data analysis using statistical software as well as spreadsheet and database software applications.
Ability to develop and supervise a team. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding. Skills in ethically communicating risks and benefits an ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with other to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers.
