The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Aquatics Coordinator at Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center located in Sterling, VA. The Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center is a state-of-the-art facility with a 50 meter competition pool, a leisure pool with spa, a gym, fitness studio, fitness room with modern cardio and strengthening equipment, climbing wall, indoor track, special event and meeting rooms, and a Licensed Preschool.
As the Aquatics Coordinator you will provide continual direction and oversight of aquatic operations and programming, and will also assist the center manager with developing and implementing policies and procedures for the recreation center to include developing pool operating policies, safety requirements, emergency procedures and the lifeguard staff training manual. Put your marketing skills to good use to promote and implement programs for lap and leisure pools, including rentals, open swim, aquatic instruction and fitness, swim meets and special events. Strong managerial skills are needed to manage staff performance and recruit, train, and certify qualified temporary pool staff. Maintain Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid training certifications to be able to instruct other staff and to serve as a first responder to ensure a first rate facility. Attention to detail is needed to perform daily site safety checks, pool inspections, and to attend to minor maintenance and repairs to ensure a safe, clean, secure and aesthetically pleasing environment. Establish a strong customer service focus and ensure that all pool staff responds to customer needs and inquiries. The work schedule varies and will include early mornings, days, nights and weekends to meet center needs. This position will be regularly scheduled to supervise the entire Rec Center operation as Manager on Duty on assigned shifts.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Recreation and Leisure Services or related field with a minimum of two years related experience in aquatics programming and pool facility management working with the public. Experience must include one year supervisory experience in an aquatics environment. Position requires Pool Operators license, American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard, WSI, First Aid/CPR certifications and First Aid/ CPR Instructor certification. All required certifications must be indicated on application to be considered for recruitment. Prefer additional training and/or experience related to building systems, to include HVAC and pool mechanical systems. Prefer membership in Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) and the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). Criminal Background, Credit and Child Protective Services (CPS) checks required.
