This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Admin Prog Asst-Med Referrals position for Student Health Services at Oregon State University (OSU).
Medical Referrals Specialist (MRS) at Student Health Services Medical Records and Referrals Office applies current medical record standards and legal decisions to patient records and ensures compliance with rules, policies, laws and regulations governing the release of medical records and information.
The MRS is responsible for arranging patient medical referrals and imaging appointments, scheduling outside referrals and managing pre-authorizations. The MRS is responsible for ensuring appropriate, timely, and accurate follow up to patient referrals.
Additionally, the MRS is cross-trained to assist with medical records releases which includes responding to court or attorney subpoenas, insurance company requests, patient requests, medical providers and/or facilities and other educational institutions.
Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents; and Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.
Two years of technical or professional-level experience advising and/or instructing the public concerning specific programs or processes, monitoring programs, or performing participant reviews.
Two years of experience in an ambulatory human health care or pharmacy environment.
Knowledge of medical referrals and medical records standards and policies.
Two years of demonstrated customer service experience.
Two years of demonstrated experience in entering, manipulating and retrieving data from an electronic health information system.
Two years of experience in common word processing, spreadsheet and database management software such as Microsoft Office.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and via telephone, adhering to standards of patients' confidentiality.
Knowledge of medical terminology
Demonstrable organizational and prioritizing skills.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
Health Care Environment
This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures. The incumbent is expected to check in with their direct supervisor to determine if they are required to report to work.
