Business Development Specialist - Engineering and Mineral Resources 09050
The Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is seeking applications for a Business Development Specialist. This position will be responsible for developing research opportunities through:
Securing government and industry funded grants, contracts, projects, and other opportunities.
Participating in workshops, meetings and conferences organized by industry, federal and state agencies to represent the Statler college center directors and faculty with the purpose of program initiation, and presenting college research and development capabilities.
Representing principal investigators (PI's) in conducting and establishing initial communication with Program Directors at NSF, DOE, and other federal funding agencies as well industry counterparts.
Actively initiating and building relationships with industrial partner national laboratories and other universities with the goal of seeking and creating funding opportunities.
Working with faculty, center directors and others to manage proposal activity including developing framework/team building strategies.
A considerable amount of travel is required.
Length of Assignment - Two (2) years with the possibility of extention.
Bachelor's degree with at least seven (7) years of industry experience or a Master's degree with at least five (5) years of industry experience in areas closely related to chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, material science and engineering, or civil engineering
Knowledge of the nature of business development and industry-university partnerships in academic settings and/or national lab environments
Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate with multiple parties from within and outside the University
Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills which includes being tactful and diplomatic at all times
Strong research and strategy analysis
Good computer skills
Ability to travel
Three (3) professional references
Valid driver's license
