The Department of Residence at Iowa State University is accepting applications for the position of Hall Director/Apartment Community Manager. The Hall Directors/Apartment Community Managers are live-in staff members who are responsible for creating a living/learning community which contributes to the personal and academic success of residents through collaboration with students, staff, and faculty. The size of each residence community ranges from 300 to 2700 residents. The major functions of these positions are to supervise a Community Adviser Staff, provide direction and supervision in specific assignments (hall desk, student government, etc.), and respond to a wide variety of academic and personal development situations. Approximately ½ of the Hall Directors/Apartment Community Managers supervise a graduate assistant.
The successful candidate will possess a basic understanding of college student development and the relationship between academics and residence, an understanding of the factors affecting academic success, the ability to counsel/mediate with individuals and groups, written and verbal communication skills, creativity, sensitivity to diversity, organizational skills, problem solving skills, and time management skills.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s in student personnel or related area.
Experience as a Resident or Graduate Assistant.
Experience working with academic initiatives; undergraduate students; staff supervision, selection and training; and judicial process.
Experience working with under-represented student populations and student organization advising.
Compensation includes salary plus apartment, board, Ethernet, laundry. Board provided when residential dining service is open.
Hall Directors/Apartment Community Managers must have access to transportation and must be able to respond immediately, in person, to any situation, at any University operated residence hall or apartment community, while on-call.
