ACCOUNTANT I: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. One year professional accounting experience or related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
ACCOUNTANT II: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other related field. Two years professional accounting experience or a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
ACCOUNTANTIII: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. Four years experience in professional accounting or experience in a related field. Prefer university or governmental experience. A good knowledge of fund accounting and data processing is beneficial. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
ACCOUNTANT I: Performs entry level professional accounting work in accordance with prescribed procedures and techniques in fiscal control and reporting.
ACCOUNTANT II: Performs responsible professional operating cost accounting work following standardized applications of established accounting practices. To perform accounting and related assignments involving the recording, analysis and reporting of financial data.
ACCOUNTANTIII: Performs advanced professional accounting work in the management of the business office. Responsible for recording, examination, analysis and reporting of financial data.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
ACCOUNTANT I: Performs routine accounting duties such as but not necessarily limited to posting and maintaining ledger accounts; reconciling salary reports and bank statements; preparing deposit slips and maintaining cash records; computing unit cost information; taking trial balance of subsidiary ledgers and reconciling discrepancies; analyzing data for planning estimates. Prepares the less complex special reports as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTANT II: Assembles data from books of original entry and control records. Prepares financial statements and reports pertaining to departmental or University activities. Audits and processes purchase, cash receipt and disbursement documents in accordance with disbursing rules and regulations. Reviews central accounts and fund groups for propriety of entries and investigate overdrafts. Prepares or assists in the preparation of financial reports including monthly summary reports, government reports and annual financial reports. Prepares or assists with billings to government or federal projects. Performs other related duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTANTIII: Prepares vouchers for reimbursement to state and local agencies; assembles data and prepares financial reports for State Controller's Office and other agencies; performs reconciliations for various accounts; audits accounts, vouchers, cash receipts, and reports; assists with student registration as required; posts and establishes new accounts as needed; enters transactions and runs programs on computer terminal; handles budget and cash transfers to include fund transfers; prepares year-end adjusting, closing and balance forward entries for assigned fund groups and departmental accounts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
