Reporting to the Associate Director of Employment Services within the Office of Global Services (OGS), the International Student and Scholar Advisor will act in the capacity of Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for all Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Academic Training (AT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) related cases. Serve as a primary resource to international students for issues related to legal requirements concerning cooperative education, internship, practicum procedures, on-campus employment, and post-graduation work authorizations. Manage processes, data collection, and informational components as required by?SEVIS. Work in tandem with Colleges and Graduate Schools as needed.
Presentations to international students regarding immigration regulations affecting international students on co-op will be ongoing, and the institution will rely on the International Student and Scholar Advisor to keep all members of student and scholar service units informed about government regulations and issues related to international students enrolled at Northeastern and employment issues concerning the hire of international students for experiential learning opportunities. Keep abreast of federal regulations governing all aspects of?CPT, AT, OPT and OPTSTEM extensions. Provide administrative support to OGS. Serve as part of the?OGS?team in ensuring university compliance with federal regulations and represent OGS?at pertinent events.
A minimum of three years of formal work experience in immigration advising and counseling international students is required. Knowledge of SEVISRTI procedures is essential. Familiarity with batching systems highly preferred. Knowledge of Sunapsis is a plus. Knowledge of Co-op, OPT, employment authorizations for international students is essential. A Bachelors degree is required, preferably in a field related to international education, social sciences, or humanities. A Masters degree is strongly preferred. Prior study/work abroad or other living experience overseas is helpful, along with knowledge of a second or third language. Strong intercultural communication and interpersonal skills, highly developed organizational abilities and systems management experience crucial, along with the capability to work well with students, OGS team, and other university departments. US citizenship or permanent residency required.
