Jacksonville State University (JSU) is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and seasoned administrator, Senior Director of Sponsored Programs, to provide leadership to all stages of grant acquisition and grant administration, while ensuring compliance with all federal administrative requirements, state regulations, grantor restrictions, and University fiscal policies.
Under the direction of the Associate Vice-Provost, the Senior Director of Sponsored Programs provides vision, guidance, coordination, and oversight for the University's efforts to apply for and administer JSU's federally and state funded grants and awards programs.
This position is responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and refining a system of on-going oversight, training, and support related to programmatic compliance in the implementation and management of government-funded grants and will lead efforts to identify best practices as well as gaps and inefficiencies in JSU's grants administration to ensure a high standard across the University.
Oversees all pre- and post- award activities
Assists senior administrators and principal investigators with issues related to externally-sponsored research activities and affiliated contractual requirements
Develops and implements guidelines and policies to support faculty and staff in the institutional grant acquisition and approval process
Provides and/or oversees outreach and training to faculty and other constituents
Engages the University community (including faculty, department heads, deans, vice-presidents), to draw awareness to funding opportunities
Provides support to the University with the review and delivery of the proposal to the funding agency
Managing, promoting, advocating for, and providing guidance for faculty and student research and for institutional grants, with emphasis on successful applications for awards, grants, and contracts.
Identifying and cultivating cross- and inter-disciplinary areas of faculty research synergy appropriate for the pursuit of external funding from federal, state, and local sources.
Researching and communicating information through multiple modalities (in-person, e-mail, online, etc.) on funding opportunities from government agencies.
Keeping abreast of national and international policies, trends, and best practices in sponsored research to provide expert consultation with institutional leadership, researchers, students, and other research stakeholders on complex research issues.
Cultivating collaborative alliances with the within the academic units, community partners, and cognate area colleges and universities.
Providing leadership and management for the staff in the Office of Sponsored Programs.
Providing training on grants management to the University community
Providing technical assistance in proposal development and grant writing, including budgeting, staffing, space and facilities requirements, etc.
Assuring compliance with administrative and fiscal requirements of grants.
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
At least five (5) years related senior administrative experience
Demonstrated knowledge of indirect cost rates, effort reporting, federal and state regulations relating to grants
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to interact effectively with Office of Sponsored Programs' stakeholders, including administrators, faculty, staff, students, governmental agencies, and other prospective funding sources
Evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills
Master's or terminal degree in research administration, business administration, educational administration, public administration, or related field
At least three (3) years' experience in administrative leadership of University sponsored programs
Experience working in higher education
Experience managing a small office
Active Certified Research Administrator (CRA) Certification
Evidence of a strong understanding of all facets of grant development, implementation, and compliance
Demonstrated ability to develop and participate in process improvement
