FULL TIME 12-MONTH LECTURER IN LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION, EVALUATION AND EXHIBITION. The Animal Science Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, CA invites applications for a full time, 12- month lecturer position for the 2018-19 year beginning August 31, 2018 through August 29, 2019. The position involves teaching courses in swine production, livestock evaluation, livestock exhibition including courses involving the management of the annual Western Bonanza Junior Livestock Show, and other courses and disciplines appropriate to the expertise of the individual and needs of the department. The successful candidate will establish an active relationship with other university faculty and researchers, leaders in livestock production and exhibition, students, and the general public to provide information and leadership related to livestock industry issues.
In addition, candidates should be able to provide practical experience and individualized student-learning opportunities such as experiential classes, undergraduate and graduate research projects and student internships. Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program.
Service activities will include participation on department, college, and university committees and instructionally related activities.
Qualifications include an M.S. in Animal Science or related discipline. Particular attention will be afforded to candidates who have productive records of teaching and scholarly activity that would strengthen current department initiatives, and those with strong demonstrated leadership experience and capability. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to diversity.
Other considerations include demonstration of excellence in teaching, and effective communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the general public is essential.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interest in undergraduate teaching is required.

The Animal Sciences Department, includes over 800 students in the two majors, boasts the most comprehensive and the best undergraduate program in livestock production and management in the West. Through its faculty and students, the Department manages commercial herds and flocks of dairy and beef cattle, horses, sheep, swine, and poultry on a farm of some 6,000 acres with the support of several new facilities including a new state of the art, $6.5 million meat processing center and $6 million animal nutrition center. Recent gifts in excess of $10 million have been given to the Department to enhance these living laboratories where our students gain hands-on experience on ...our production units. Graduates of Animal Science and Dairy Science are prepared for meaningful careers in the animal industries, allied professions, and graduate studies.
Cal Poly's College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES), the largest non-land grant agricultural program in the U.S., awards nearly half of all baccalaureate agriculture degrees granted in California.
