Job Description – NCI Cancer Information Manager
The Health. Research, Informatics and Technology Division is currently seeking an experienced Oncology Patient Education Manager to serve within the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Office of Communications and Public Liaison (OCPL) in Rockville, MD. Our client (NCI-OCPL) is responsible for developing and maintaining trusted information about cancer treatment, screening, prevention, genetics, supportive care, and complementary and alternative medicine for patients, health professionals, and the general public. To accomplish this goal, OCPL uses external boards and advisors to create, revise, and update cancer information summaries on NCI’s Cancer.gov Web site (http://www.cancer.gov).
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating activities for an NCI Board, comprised of cancer experts and specialists to write/edit Cancer Information Summaries on multiple aspects of cancer care and to ensure that these summaries include recent advances in cancer research.
Activities will include Managing Editorial Board and Advisory Board membership and managing meetings that occur regularly throughout the year.
Working closely with the NCI Information Branch team as well as other NCI staff responsible for content on the NCI website.
Working closely with ICF science writer/editors to write new Cancer Information Summaries, edit existing CI Summaries, and publish updated CI Summaries to Cancer.gov.
Managing the workflow using database and management systems.
Nursing Degree (from accredited School of Nursing) or Bachelors of Science, Nursing preferred.
5 years of Clinical experience in the care and education of patients with cancer that may include treatment and symptom management.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate with diverse populations.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Team player with the ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Ability to manage and coordinate work with outside experts as well as internal staff.
