The Department of Physics welcomes applicants for a one-year, full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August, 2018. Responsibilities include teaching general education, introductory, and advanced undergraduate courses in physics. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. The 7-member department is housed with modern teaching labs and dedicated faculty research labs. The Department of Physics, in the College of Science and Technology, serves about 800 students annually and have graduated an average of nine physics majors per year for the past 10 years.
Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, etc.), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days. Primary teaching responsibility is in major and/or non-major courses (lectures and/or laboratories) in all areas of physics. Candidates must be willing to teach day, evening and/or weekend classes and conduct classes on and off the Millersville campus through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.
The successful candidate may utilize departmental space and equipment to pursue continued scholarly growth in the academic profession commensurate with the position. Examples may include but are not limited to research projects and publications, and presentation of papers at professional meetings.
The successful candidate may contribute to department and university governance outside the classroom and service to the university and community at large, commensurate with the position. Examples include but are not limited to: participation on committees; membership in professional and community-based organizations; lectures and consulting activities with local agencies; support of and participation in student organization activities.
