Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Senior Operational Risk Manager .
Drive development of operational risk policies across regional Commercial Banking and Global Banking Markets in conjunction with global counterparts.
Provide advisory support on processes and tools that facilitate risk based business management and in alignment with Global Commercial Banking and Global Banking Markets and Group strategy.
Review emerging risks to assist with proactive management of risk, ensure appropriate escalation to governance committees, and alignment with forward looking appetite.
Integrate Risk Appetite, Scenario Analysis and Stress Testing into regional Commercial Banking and Global Banking Markets in a practical way, coordinate mitigating management action plans, collate and report results.
Provide air traffic control and direction on non financial risk initiatives and control assurance activities
Keep abreast of industry wide and regulatory developments in non financial risk management and continually assess the impact these might have on the firm.
Influence management including business heads and function heads to fulfil roles and responsibilities and manage non financial risk according to the Groups frameworks and within stated appetite
Provide enhanced reporting and monitoring of the top and emerging risks and risk profiles that Commercial Banking and Global Banking Markets faces within the region and ensure appropriate management mitigating actions in place.
Provide expertise and guidance to ensure Commercial Banking and Global Banking Markets Non Financial Risk Governance, Risk Appetite and Stress Testing frameworks are implemented, used and understood amongst stakeholders.
Support the embedding of an appropriate operational risk culture within the businesses.
Understand, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which one is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.
Tertiary education or degree holder in Business Administration, Risk Management or a related field.
Senior management exposure and committee experience
Strong negotiation and persuasion skills
Knowledge of the Operational Risk Management Framework within HSBC
Excellent articulation and presentation ability, especially of complex subjects and implications to audiences with varying degrees of familiarity
Proven ability to operate across multiple regions in a large bank by building networks and leading teams that may not be directly managed.
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for risk management in the language of business
Understand and interpret complex business requirements and prioritise competing demands
Demonstrated ability to assess risk trends, both internally and externally
Exceptional drive and commitment
Ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment
Commercially minded, customer focused
Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal
Ability to highlight problems but more importantly offer solutions, and drive through their execution in a collective environment
