Responsible for ongoing management of electronic data storage and access within the organization. Provides design, development, database administration, technical assistance, and training with new systems. Provides enhancements, database administration, technical assistance, and training for current systems. No direct supervisory responsibilities. No budget responsibilities. Performs ongoing data management. Analyzes and quickly learns existing systems in order to make modifications or enhancements. Provides programming and database administration support for Microsoft SQL Server Database systems. Establishes and maintains database backup/restore/recovery processes and procedures. Monitors and tunes database server; performs SQL performance tuning. Manages Schema tables, indexes, triggers, etc. Troubleshoots, resolves, reports and tracks problems. Provides ongoing database administration and programming support for customer-oriented applications (ASP/ASP.NET/VB6). Provides technical assistance and training. Designs and develops new database systems/applications. Enhances efficiency and performance of existing databases/applications. Refines maintenance and backup jobs to be more efficient and stable. Updates database with Department of Transportation information from digital versatile disk. Checks to make sure processes run correctly without errors. Answers incoming calls from ITS Helpline. Provides on-call service on rotation schedule. Creates documentation on applications/processes. Records time and billing on projects. Helps others with database related problems and provides information. Supports and maintains third party enterprise-wide software. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum education, experience and certification
Associate’s degree in computer science, management information systems or a related field from an educational institution accredited by a DOE recognized accreditation body and three years of experience required. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems or a related field from an educational institution accredited by a DOE recognized accreditation body preferred. Or equivalent combination and education and experience. Work experience in SQL Server, Visual Studio and Microsoft Access required. Experience in database software installation/upgrades and configuration; establishment and maintenance of database backup/restore/recovery processes and procedures; database server monitoring, and SQL performance tuning; schema management (tables, indexes, triggers, etc.) required. Experience with troubleshooting, problem resolution, reporting and tracking required. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Certified Professional preferred. ASP.NET/C#/VB.NET development experience preferred. Microsoft Certified Database Administrator preferred. Must pass criminal background check.
