Salary Range: $47,608 - $52,369 (prorated at .90 FTE)
The primary purpose of this position is to provide exams and preventive/maintenance care for patients with periodontal disease. These are patients of the departmental faculty in the Dental Faculty Practice. Duties will include: performing scaling and root planing and prophylactic procedures; instructing patients in oral home care (including hygiene methods for daily cleaning of the teeth); checking and recording caries; assisting the Periodontists when examining the patient and collaborates on optimal care to manage the patient's disease; record keeping, charting and schedule coordination associated with treating patients; exposing radiographs as needed and managing patient recall appointments as dictated by treatment plan.
Education and Experience:
Licensed to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of North Carolina.

Candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and regulations governing general dental hygiene, patient care protocols, medical guidelines, clinical procedures in general dental hygiene and patient care management. Candidate must have ability to apply continual learning of new clinical treatments, techniques, and technologies in the field of dental hygiene and ability to perform general and specialized patient services consistent with the Dental Hygiene Practice Act; ability to make appropriate referrals and completes charting. Ability to educate the patient in proper oral hygiene and alternative treatment methods. Ability to discuss alternative treatments with other dental professional. Ability to apply knowledge of educational theory and techniques in the field of dental health. Ability to establish goals and objectives and create work plans. Ability to communicate both verbally and written in executing responsibilities and dealing with patients, faculty, and staff.
At least 3 years of experience in hygiene. BSDH or MSDH or equivalent education and training. At least 2 years of experience in treating patients with periodontal disease.
