Reports to: Director, Office of International Students and Scholars
The immigration specialist is responsible for the management of student’s immigration documents, immigration advising, supporting international student travel logistics, assisting with new student orientations, and other general matters. This position serves as a designated school official (DSO) as authorized by the US Department of Homeland Security and will play a role in international student orientations, workshops, and extracurricular activities.
Advises on travel, immigration documents, and other state or federal documents
Assists F-1 students in understanding their legal rights and responsibilities
Ensures adherence to immigration regulations, provides timely responses to questions, and facilitates judicious processing of applications for immigration benefits
Ensures compliance with Optional Practical Training and Curricular Practical Training regulations
Develops and implements immigration workshops and training for international students
Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum of 1 year of experience working in international student services, ESL teaching, student counseling or academic advisement required
U.S citizenship or lawful permanent residency required
Master's degree in higher education, international affairs, or related field preferred
Experience working with the Student Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS) preferred
