The Office of the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at West Virginia University is accepting applications for the position of Strategic Initiatives Project Director. This position will serve as an advisor to the Vice President and will manage a portfolio of complex initiatives and projects that span multiple areas of the University.
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will:
Coordinate with the Vice President and senior leadership regarding advance notice and preparation relating to recurring management responsibilities and activities; attends recurring planning meetings with those supported and oversees follow-up items arising from these meetings;
Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Vice President's needs;
Provide a high level of service excellence to units;
Provide leadership for project goals, ensuring adherence by project members to their responsibilities and project milestones;
Undertake full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment for one major or several minor initiatives simultaneously;
Manage all aspects of multiple related projects to ensure the overall program is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives;
Prepare estimates and detailed project plan for all phases of projects;
Report on project success criteria results, metrics, test and deployment management activities;
Assist and provide project management assistance, including email follow-up and engagement with various University and external stakeholders;
Prepare complex itineraries, plan, and coordinate events for the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and other events;
Keep and take meeting minutes and develop those into task lists, action items, and strategic plans;
Adjust well to a fast paced, demanding work environment where priorities frequently change requiring multi-tasking abilities;
Solve complicated, multi-faceted problems at a high and confidential level.
Bachelor's degree required;
8 years of experience providing a high level of follow-through, with an excellence in customer service and engagement; previous experience and familiarity with State government portfolio is preferred;
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) or a Master's Certificate in Project Management is preferred;
Ability to lead complex, cross-functional projects in a large organization;
Strong ability to be intuitive, with an emphasis on teamwork, innovation, and excellence;
Ability to have a flexible work schedule and work beyond regular hours, as needed;
Valid driver's license
