The Division of Development and Alumni Relations is dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of RIT. Strategically critical to achieving the universitys goals, the Division of Development and Alumni Relations nurtures lifelong, mutually beneficial relationships with alumni, parents, friends, faculty/staff and organizations resulting in deeper connections, greater volunteer engagement and increased philanthropic support. We are a team-oriented, highly collaborative Division working with all areas of the university to maximize fundraising opportunities and alumni involvement.
Detailed Job Description Identify and research individual, corporate, and foundation prospects and outline their financial, business, and biographical information, as well as their current and historical relationships with RIT. Compile information into concise analytical reports for Division of Development and Alumni Relations staff and other leading members of the university. Assist in the creation of a weekly newsletter to the division detailing alumni of note, prospects, and donors.
Research individual, corporate, and foundation prospects using a range of online database sources, University files and records, and library sources. Analyze and interpret complex business and financial information.
Identify new, high potential donor prospects through research and/or database analysis, and write compelling profiles and summaries on those prospects for fundraisers to review and act on. Present prospect recommendations to divisional leadership, development officers, prospect managers, deans, and other leaders of the university.
Manage the Research Team's tracking systems for self-driven projects. Oversee all activity in the tracking system and ensure compliance. Train other researchers as necessary.
Review electronic news clippings for dissemination to Development and Alumni Relations prospect managers and selected administrative offices (i.e., University News, the Trustee Office, Government & Community Relations, etc.) as needed. Store relevant articles in the Ellucian Advance system to preserve institutional memory.
Review research requests, which are sometimes vague, and determine which type of research needs to be performed, which research resources need to be utilized, and which report formats are required. Advise division members on strategy and best courses of action when requests are unclear.
Work with college representatives, Alumni Relations, and others to understand their strategies and ideas. Recommend research projects and analyses to help them achieve their goals. Drive research activity on college development teams.
Review large amounts of written information and data and summarize it into well-written, concise reports or profiles for fundraisers and other representatives to use when contacting prospects.
Assist the Associate Director of Prospect Research in identifying new resources for research. Assess sources available through the RIT Libraries, online databases, and a range of vendors to determine an effective and streamlined strategy for conducting research.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree, preferably in Library Science, English, Business, or Communications.
A minimum of two years direct research experience in a fundraising and/or higher education field, or comparable experience in a research-oriented environment
Experience searching online databases and the Internet. Demonstrated knowledge of MS operating systems, MS Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat, and one or more database systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines
Ability to self-motivate
Excellent attention to detail
