Job Duties: The primary role of this position is teaching, during the academic semester (fall and/or spring depending on needs of department.), but includes expectations for scholarship and service, including engaging in research related to aerospace engineering and mechanics in the areas of aerospace systems, solid mechanics and materials and fluid mechanics. Will engage in one or more of the following activities, depending on student enrollment and individual research program: develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, advise students on coursework and academic goals, engage in research and publication and/or scientific creation; provide service through participation in governance at the department, collegiate of university level.
The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Univ. of MN seeks to add to its pool of temporary, part-time (20%-40%) instructors available to teach during the academic year. Note: being a member of the pool does not ensure a contract will be offered; course offerings, and therefore, teaching appointments, vary with demand and available funding.
Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics or related field.
Teaching/research experience in areas of aerospace systems, solid mechanics and materials and fluid mechanics including engineering mechanics courses such as statics, dynamics and mechanics of materials.
Experience with appropriate software applications, programming languages, and/or computational and online tools relevant to aerospace engineering and mechanics teaching and/or research.
Experience teaching in active classroom settings, and in supervising undergraduate research.
Strong interest in focusing on undergraduate teaching, educational/instructional research, and linking instructional and research activities to promote student engagement in research. Ability to develop clear, reasonably demanding expectations of students, effectively meet teaching responsibilities, and achieve successful learning outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to conduct pedagogical research.
