Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. Master's degree in Library Science or Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited program preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in Integrated Library Systems (ILS) server administration, maintenance, or support. Experience with Sirsi Symphony preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Administers the Library's Integrated Library System (ILS) and oversees bibliographic control functions and quality control aspects of the ILS database, and its integration with university and vendor systems.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Administers, maintains, and supports all modules of the Libraries' SirsiDynix Symphony Integrated Library System (ILS). Serves as the primary Library liaison to SirsiDynix for problem resolutions and representations on the SIRSI regional and national user groups. Creates custom reports and scripts to automate ILS processes by understanding the ILS database structure and utilizing the ILS Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Works closely with IT@Sam and ILS Server Administrator on the maintenance of the ILS server. Integrates ILS with university and vendor systems, including EbscoReference Universe database, GOBI, OCLC, and Banner by Ellucian. Oversees the function of the Open Public Access Catalog (OPAC), with focus on redesign or restructuring to increase functionality. Identifies quality control issues in catalog, and develops short-term and long-term projects to resolve identified problems. Creates batch processes for database issues already identified. Responds to Access tickets for things that do not involve physical items. Maintains authority updating schedule through export of records and import of authority files received from authority vendor, and oversees local cleanup of authority problems. Manages the library's holdings and profile in OCLC, including updating Government Document holdings quarterly. Imports and loads Government Document records. Develops procedures for batch manipulation of records to maximize database control and access. Batch manipulates, imports, and loads electronic theses and dissertations, LEMIT papers, and Archon records. Creates OCLC records when necessary. Maintains currency with new developments in ILS, cataloging, and applicable technology. Serves as consultant for major cataloging changes and issues. May assist in leading team projects involving two or more department staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.
