GENERAL JOB DUTIES: This position serves as the State Epidemiologist for Kentucky and is responsible for the medical supervision of reportable diseases and data collection on such. Communicates with health professionals, educational organizations and the public on all matters concerned with epidemiology in Kentucky.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: MD, DO or other medical degree with a license to practice in Kentucky is preferred and shall maintain board certification in his/her chosen field preferred. Graduate of a college or university with a PhD and sufficient training which would ensure the knowledge, skills and abilities to accomplish agency objectives. Sufficient professional level epidemiologic experience, which would ensure the knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish agency objectives. The ideal candidate must have a competent and thorough knowledge of public health/population health, and infectious disease management. Experience in the field of public health or population health is preferred. Must demonstrate professional leadership and the ability to communicate.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be licensed to practice medicine by the Kentucky State Board of Medical Licensure. Must be Board certified in the specialty area of medicine. http://kbml.ky.gov/. The Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) is responsible for developing and operating state public health programs and activities for the citizens of Kentucky.
