Employee’s primary job duties shall be:
To provide direct patient care and to supervise (precept) housestaff and student physicians providing direct patient care at the Assigned Location or at any other clinic site as assigned by the Department Medical Director or Chair based on patient needs and business objectives of the Department Patients cared for will include children, adults, and pregnant women. Specific patient care duties include obtaining medical history and performing physical examination, developing diagnostic and treatment plan, patient counseling including discussion of evaluation process, risks and benefits of treatment options, review of recommended diagnostic studies.
Employee shall follow Department and local clinic policies. Employee shall assure quality medical care is delivered to all patients in a timely and cost effective manner. Employee shall document in and maintain medical records in the health system Electronic Health Record according to policy. Employee shall maintain active medical staff privileges at UCDMC. Employee shall participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings at both the clinic and hospital sites to maintain privileges.
Employee shall appropriately complete all paperwork in a timely manner including documentation necessary for patient care and billing. Employee shall attend administrative meetings called by the Department Medical Director or Chair.
Employee shall fulfill all expectations and duties of his/her appointment.
Employee shall participate in the local governance of the clinic under the immediate supervision of the Department Medical Director and ultimate supervision of the Department Chair. Employee may be requested and shall thereby participate in the local operation of the clinic to include local marketing efforts, local contracting issues, participate in program changes, evaluate prospective primary care providers for the clinic, and evaluate the performance of the Department Medical Director and the Chair.
The work week shall be in accordance with Network Policy 1043 and arranged and scheduled through the Department Medical Director. The hours the clinic is operational and the specific hours worked shall be determined by the Department Medical Director and the Chair.
If needed, Employee shall participate in the schedule arranged by the Department Chair or their delegate to provide coverage of clinic telephone and electronic health record “in box” and other (e.g., faxed) messages. This coverage may include after clinic hours, on weekends and holidays, and during other physicians’ vacations.
In addition, if needed, Employee shall participate in providing inpatient hospital care (including supervising housestaff and student physicians) on the Department’s inpatient service). This coverage may include after clinic hours, on weekends and holidays, and during other physicians’ vacations.
Employee shall maintain a separate appointment as a Volunteer Clinical Faculty, which will allow the staff physician to supervise and interact with medical students, housestaff and other learners in an ancillary teaching capacity.

Skills required include the ability to manage complex medical patients and their broad range of illness, to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to serve as an effective teacher when dealing with learners and to effectively transition patients from the inpatient setting back to their outpatient care home.
Knowledge required includes a good understanding of the common diseases that a hospital-based physician deals with on a daily basis, understand the health care system in which they work and how to access their patient’s care needs.
Abilities/competencies required include functioning in a professional manner with regards to patients, families, colleagues, to maintain compliance with all medical staff policies and to be an effective communicator with a broad range of people.
Employee must possess the degree of MD
Licensed in the State of California
Board Certified in Family Medicine
The employee in this position will be required to have a separate appointment on the Volunteer Clinical Faculty. This separate appointment will allow the employee to supervise and interact with medical students and residents.
