The University of Missouri-St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Elementary Literacy Education. Candidates of diverse and minority backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply for this position.
The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities: maintain a strong publication record; teach and advise graduate and undergraduate students; write grants and participate in and/or direct externally funded projects; contribute leadership and programmatic oversight in Elementary Literacy; collaborate with area agencies and/or schools; provide leadership to field-based and literacy clinic experiences; provide service to the university, the community and professional organizations. Candidates will be evaluated on the following criteria: a focused program of research and scholarship appropriate to rank; literacy teaching experience in educational settings, especially with linguistically and culturally diverse students; demonstrated success in teaching literacy courses at the college level (online and face-to-face); expertise in literacy instruction for culturally, economically and linguistically diverse students at the elementary level; ability to teach with and about 21st-century literacies. This is a benefits-eligible, full-time, tenure-track, nine-month position with an anticipated start for the 2019-2020 academic year (August 2019). Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in Literacy Education (by the start date) with a strong emphasis in Elementary Literacy, particularly with linguistically and culturally diverse students.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience as a literacy specialist/coach in public schools and/or those who have worked in literacy clinics.
