It is the mission of the Department of Athletics and Recreation at Bridgewater State University to provide varsity, intramural, club and recreational activities to address the needs, interests and capabilities of our students, faculty and staff. GENERALSTATEMENT OF DUTIES: In collaboration with the head coach and athletic administrative staff, the assistant coach plans practices to teach, encourage and develop student-athlete skills and game techniques. Assists the head coach in the organization and administration of all aspects of the intercollegiate cross county and track/field programs. SUPERVISIONRECEIVED: Reports to the Head Coach – Cross County & Track/Field SUPERVISIONEXERCISED: Supervision of student personnel
COREDUTIES: ● Assist the head coach in teaching skills and strategies for cross country & track/field in the traditional and non-traditional seasons ● Coach cross country & track/field team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate appropriate game techniques ● planning and directing team practices to encourage and develop student-athlete skills and game techniques ● develop and recommend strategy, teach theoretical skills and position assignments ● Coordinate year-round instruction with players in accordance with University, Conference and NCAA bylaws and regulations ● Monitor and oversee the academic development of cross country & track/field student-athletes, ensuring academic progress to graduation ● With appropriate certification from a national recognized governing body, develop in cross country & track/field student-athletes an understanding of proper sports nutrition, personal health and safe strength development ● Create a positive and healthy team culture that encourages learning and development ● Additional support duties as assigned by Head Coach including assisting in ● developing and implementing community service learning programs ● organizing and directing a comprehensive student-athlete support program including promotion of the program, leadership development and student-athlete motivation through programs such as Peer Mentors, Captain's Council and SAAC ● developing and implementing a comprehensive recruiting plan ● fundraising and alumni relations ● Adhere to and support all rules, conditions and regulations as set forth by Bridgewater State University, Conference affiliations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association pertaining to all aspects of the team's management. ● Performs other related duties as assigned
●Bachelor's degree required or relevant coaching and/or playing experience ● Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test for Coaches by the 2nd full week of the playing and practice season ● Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences (i.e., students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and community) ● Current certification in First Aid / CPR (AED) ●Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates. ● Ability to lift 25 lbs. with appropriate accommodation
Previous coaching experience at the High School or Collegiate level. Experience with Pole Vault, Jumps, Distance and/or Sprints. Experience with FrontRush recruiting database management preferred Valid U.S. driver's license preferred
Coaching activities are performed inside and outside, must be able to perform duties in various weather conditions. Coaching activities require incumbent to stand for varying lengths of time and travel moderate distance to perform work at the athletic event location; Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds with appropriate accommodations if needed. Must be able to move athletic event-related materials to and from athletic event sites.
