Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, Carolina Digestive Health Associates (CDHA) provides gastroenterology care to patients from 16-years-old through adult seniors. The goal of CDHA is to provide patients, referring physicians, and the community with the highest, most comprehensive quality of gastroenterology care. CDHA physicians have been serving the Charlotte metropolitan area for over 25 years.
CDHA is currently comprised of 13 accredited gastroenterologists and 10 mid-levels that provide service at eight conveniently located offices as well as at five award winning endoscopy centers accredited by the AAAHC. The practice employs approximately 170 across three “zones” – North, South and Central - and has over $100M in annual charges. Carolina Digestive Health participates with all major insurance carriers in the area and maintains privileges at all area hospitals.

As one of the most well-known and well-respected GI practices in the Charlotte region, CDHA is committed to remaining independent. The stakeholders are keenly interested in exploring opportunities for growth and expansion - organically through revenue diversification/enhancement, as well as through mergers and acquisition activity. Additionally, sustainability for the practice must also involve an intentional physician development strategy that includes new physician recruitment/integration, as well as succession and thoughtful transition for existing partners. Today, CDHA is seeking a visionary CEO who can successfully lead and advance the practice into the next stage of its evolution.
CDHA seeks a proven executive who can facilitate continued operational and financial effectiveness for the practice, who is well-rounded, firm but fair, possesses strong relationship building skills, is both strategic and personable/engaging, and has experience as a proven, independent group practice leader with an eye for positioning the group for future growth, sustainability and continued success. The position will report to the current President and Executive Committee but is ultimately responsible to all partners at large.
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for leading the development and execution of the group’s long-term strategy with a view to creating shareholder value. The CEO’s leadership role also entails being ultimately responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing the practice’s long and short-term plans. The CEO acts as a direct liaison between the Board and management of the practice and communicates to the Board on behalf of management.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience as the senior leader for a like-size or larger, independent, multi-site practice. He/she will be expert in developing and motivating teams of clinicians and staff alike in a competitive market place. An advanced degree is highly preferred unless experience exceeds the minimum stated above. The ideal candidate should possess most of the following characteristics/qualities:
Proven experience as CEOor in other senior executive role within an independent physician practice (single or multi-specialty);
Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision for successful practice growth, physician transition/succession and recruitment, M&A, team and organizational optimization, etc.;
Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles;
Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance etc.;
In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices;
An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills;
Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills;
Intentional and planful versus emotional and reactive;
Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
