Job Summary Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) seeks a Senior Program Manager to join the team at the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH). This position will be responsible for managing extramurally funded global health education and training programs, assist in the management of global research projects, and work to foster project growth and new partnerships within established focus countries. Existing training and research programs take place in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs), predominantly focused on sub-Saharan Africa. This position is substantially funded through extramural grants.
Additional responsibilities will be dedicated to VIGH activities directly within the overall instituteÂ´s Grant Management and Education and Trainings teams. In this role the Sr. Program Manager will assist with the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new VIGH global research engagements, provide effort towards grant development and internal grant submissions, and engage, when appropriate, in helping to facilitate VIGH implemented training and capacity building courses.
Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
Program Management â¢Responsible for leading and managing multiple large NIH funded global health training and education grants focused on HIV/AIDS, research ethics, global clinical trials, and other institutional capacity building. â¢Implement effective strategies to enhance and expand training programs. â¢Manage large and complex budgets and subcontracts with international collaborators (including Portuguese speaking Africa). â¢Coordinate program activities with faculty, staff and external partners. â¢Facilitate the transition of successful grant applications into active program development, operations and implementation. â¢Serve as mentor to trainees and grant administrators at VIGH international partner sites. â¢Generate reports for NIH and other donors. â¢Coordinate training workshops at VIGH and at VIGH international partner sites. â¢Develop and apply metrics to measure outcomes, markers of success, and evaluate long-term impacts. â¢Represent the projects with funding partners, especially NIH, USAID, and CDC; and in various national and international settings.
Research Infrastructure â¢Develop and manage infrastructure for clinical and population-based research programs at international training sites. â¢Assist the Principal Investigator with the writing of protocols, research SOPs, study tools and informed consent documents. â¢Assist the Principal Investigator in monitoring of research progress and outcomes. â¢Assist with data analysis, dissemination and scholarly productivity through development of manuscripts, donor required reports, and presentations at scientific conferences. â¢Provide technical assistance on IRB submissions, NIH public access compliance, NIH protocol registrations system compliance and clinical trial compliance.
Basic Qualifications Minimum Education: â¢This position requires a Master's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, International Education, Social Work, or other relevant field is preferred.
Minimum Experience: â¢5 Years with extensive experience working in global health. Management experience and experience working in sub-Sarahan Africa is preferred. Fluency in both English and Portuguese is preferred
