The Research Services Administrator is responsible for: reviewing and negotiating non-sponsored research agreements to ensure compliance (Federal, State, TAMUS, TAMU, and HSC) and assessing and mitigating risk for the University; ensuring contracts can be managed and performed within the department, college, and/or laboratory; and coordinating with researchers, department heads, and deans to resolve any contract issues. This position reports to an Assistant Director in the Research Administration unit with the Division of Research.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of experience in administration in a university, or business environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptional oral and written communication skills and a strong commitment to customer service.
Ability to work under deadlines and balance competing needs.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
Working knowledge of standard office equipment.

Preferred Education and Experience:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree or other relevant bachelorâ™s or post-graduate degree.
Experience in contract negotiation with a working knowledge of research contracts and contract regulations and practical application of current research administration issues.
Prior TAMUS experience with research administration responsibilities.
Prior knowledge/experience with HSC contract negotiations.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Research Administrator.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Personal or professional experience in working with people of diverse backgrounds.
Writes, reviews, and negotiates terms and conditions of award documents and contractual agreements with other parties to ensure compliance with applicable policies, Federal and State laws and regulations, and sponsor guidelines. Negotiates non-sponsored contracts and grants including Material Transfer Agreements (MTA), Data Use/Management Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, and Restricted Data License Agreements. Assists researchers and department personnel with the administrative support relative to regulatory guidelines.
Coordinates with researchers on potential partnerships, including industry, Memoranda of Agreements (MOA), Memoranda of Understanding (MOU), and other collaborative agreements. Coordinates Intellectual Property language in conjunction with the technology commercialization office to abide with system member responsibilities. Writes and reviews agreements and negotiates with other parties for the rights in technical data and intellectual property, publication rights, title to equipment, and institutional contributions. Assists with industry contract negotiations.
Manages the capstone agreement process and student research agreements to ensure all compliance requirements are met and continue to be met. Reviews and negotiates terms and conditions of agreements to ensure compliance with policies and procedures of Texas A&M University, The Texas A&M University System, and the laws of the federal government and the State of Texas. Coordinates with researchers/faculty, department heads, and deans to resolve any contract issues. Assists in researching new requirements for all relevant regulations and legal authorities relating to student research and course requirements.
Serves as the point of contact for the other party during negotiations. Prepares correspondence and requests to other parties for agreement/contract modification. Monitors and coordinates ongoing negotiations.
Assists with contract and risk mitigation strategies and makes recommendations to the Chief Research Administrative Officer and/or the VPR.Performs other duties as assigned.
