Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a per diem FGP Clinical Histo Technician (Mohs), based in Huntington, Long Island. The incumbent is needed to work shifts falling during 12-6pm on Tuesdays.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for preparing tissue specimens for pathological examination.
Performs the following routine histologic procedures: Accessioning Grossing/Wrapping of specimens Embedding procedures Section techniques involving hematoxylin and eosin Routine special staining such as demonstration of mucopolysaccharides, tissue fibers, pigments, infectious organisms like bacteria and fungiCover Slipping Slide documentation.
Preparation of solutions required for any histological examination.
Helps maintain laboratory equipment.
Trains in the use of new laboratory equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory histotechnician, histotechnologist, technician, or technologist. An Associates Degree from a relevant course of study as defined by NYS clinical laboratory licensing requirements. A highschool degree will only be accepted if the individual has the designated experience defined by NYS and has obtained their NYS license through the grandparenting pathway defined by NYS. Experience required is 3 6 months in a histology laboratory performing technical duties. The clinical experience in a formal histology program is considered acceptable experience. Exposure to Computer systems. Good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Mohs experience highly preferred. BS/BA in Science preferred; American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification as a Histology Technician (ASCP-HT) preferred.
