Rank will be commensurate with qualifications. Both positions are jointly appointed between Computational Mathematics, Science & Engineering (CMSE) and Statistics & Probability (STT) with one position having majority appointment in CMSE and the other having majority in STT. They are seeking exceptional candidates at all career levels from all areas of statistics and data science. Specific priority research areas for this position are theory and methods in computational statistics for handling large data sets, such as those arising in genomics, biomedical engineering, physics, astronomy, data visualization questions, and high-dimensional and complex data analysis; graphical models and network inference, functional and spatial data analysis, statistical machine learning broadly construed, including multi-platform data integration, Bayesian and other guided or unguided learning. An ideal candidate for this position will work at the interface of the statistical sciences, computational sciences and modern application areas. Successful candidates are expected to publish high-quality and high-impact research in top tier journals and attract significant external funding. A majority STT candidate's research should enrich the computational sciences while a majority CMSE candidate's research should have impact in the statistical sciences.
Doctorate -Statistics or closely allied discipline
Typical applicants will have a Ph.D. in statistics or in a closely allied discipline. All candidates without a Ph.D. must be on track to complete their Ph.D. before August 16, 2018. In addition to strong research credentials, as measured by publication record, established or potential funding levels and other academic recognition, candidates are expected to provide evidence or potential for high quality teaching in undergraduate- and graduate-level statistics courses. For senior applicants, evidence of robust external funding and interdisciplinary research are essential, while evidence of engagement with national or international disciplinary organizations, and connections with industrial, government, and/or other professional sectors, are desirable and appreciated.
