Essential Functions: This person will serve as the primary School Certifying Official and will keep the Veteran Administration (VA) informed of the enrollment status of veterans and dependents. Additionally, this person will be required to remain up to date on current VA rules and educational benefits and to attend VA conferences and training sessions to ensure up to date information/knowledge of the various programs and benefits.Administer the Department of Veteran Affairs educational benefits, according to Educational Bill Title 38 U.S.C. to eligible WSU students and their dependents.Electronically certify student benefits using VAOnce and transmit data to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Certify all changes in enrollments using current certification technology (i.e. VAOnce).Share responsibility with other OMVAE staff in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and privacy of all academic records related to students using veteran educational benefits. Participate in the management and maintenance of the OMVAE database which includes tracking and monitoring student status (credit hours, program change, probation, etc.) for 500+ students per year; maintain archive files for a minimum of five years.Provide students with information regarding Wayne State University/Department of Veteran Affairs procedures and options.Liaison between local and regional VA offices, Michigan Department of Education, and OMVAE office. Participate in monthly information sessions for prospective or new students.Participate in programs specific to the veteran student population. Work with supervision and in consultation with Manager of the Office of Military and Veteran's Academic Excellence;Prepare written and oral reportsPerform duties as assigned by Manager or Senior Director of the University Advising Center.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree.Training as a School Certifying Official preferred.Prior military experience preferred.Ability to work with and maintain confidential documents.Ability to assimilate extensive knowledge of academic programs, policies, and requirements.Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and efficiently prioritize workload.Critical thinking skills and the ability to propose and implement effective solutions to issues and/or problems.Good oral and written communication skills.Computer literacy required.Previously established acceptable attendance and performance patterns.
