The Division of Student Life atthe University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations forthe position of Director of the Campus Recreation (RecSports). This is anexempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.

The Division: The Division of Student Life is comprised of over 400staff that serve our students through 21 departments and functions. Staff areactively engaged in the lives of our students, living and learning with them inour residence halls, student union, and other campus environments. The Divisionseeks candidates willingto engage, challenge, and support our students throughintentional programs andservices. The Position: The Department of Recreational Sports (RecSports)serves students, faculty, and staff by providing a wide variety of programs andwell-maintained facilities, including intramural sports, outdoor recreation,fitness programs, aquatics, sports cubs, and informal recreation. The Director is responsible for providingthe overall administrative vision, leadership, and management of the department. The Director reports to the Associate ViceChancellor for Student Life, and oversees the 138,000 sq. ft. Tennessee StudentRecreation Center for Students (TRECS), 14 outdoor recreation fields, 61,000sq. ft. Student Aquatic Center (61,000 sq. ft), and a 50-meter outdoor pool.
The Director supervises two Associate Directors, and indirectlysupervises full-time employees and approximately 350 student employees. TheDirector guides the establishment of the department's strategic plan; directsthe creation, implementation, and enforcement of department priorities,policies, and practices; and develops guidelines governing acceptable use ofspace and hours of operation. The Director also establishes guidelines andpractices for continuity of business operations; coordinates safety/securityand emergency plans; develops and long-range plans for maintenance and facilityimprovements; and evaluates/ensures departmental effectiveness and efficiencythrough ongoing assessment efforts. Additionally, the Director hasresponsibility for ensuring all programs and services reflect diversity and inclusionfor the campus community; develops departmental revenue and expenditurebudgets; and administers all aspects of human resource management (hiring,supervision, evaluation, and professional development).
The Director is expected to establish and maintain good working relationshipsand collaborations with internal and external constituencies, andcampus/divisional partners to achieve departmental mission and goals; provideleadership for university/division committees and initiatives, and representthe University at appropriate state, regional, and national professionalorganizations.
