The Director of Global Partnerships and Partner Engagement is a leading member of a team that works to achieve the University’s global ambitions. They are based at the University Center for International Studies (UCIS), which is the “nerve center” of Pitt’s global strategy. The incumbent is also the key primary liaison between external constituencies and faculty, administrators, staff and students on new and existing international partnership agreements as well as a resource to UCIS directors and other stakeholders, both within and outside the University, linking faculty, schools, the Vice Provost for Global Affairs, legal counsel, the Executive Director of Global Engagement and the Executive Director of Academic Affairs.
Key responsibilities include: - Driving thought leadership on cross-border connections between higher education, industry, non-profits, government entities and Pitt faculty, students, administrators and staff - Creating and implementing a strategic plan for Pitt’s approach toward building and sustaining long-lasting, transformative partnerships around the world - Conceiving the development, implementation and oversight of an international partnerships incubator for the Pitt community - Managing and building upon existing infrastructure for international agreement requests, approval and assessment processes - Liaising with current and prospective worldwide partners during key senior leadership engagement trips abroad
The incumbent is a senior member of the UCIS Global Engagement team and will regularly collaborate with all team members to facilitate workflow and project management needs. They will have supervisory responsibilities over personnel that support their areas of responsibility. They will prepare written reports, proposals, and support documentation as required for internal and external needs, and will attend meetings, training sessions, etc. as required or deemed appropriate for her/his position. They must be able to represent the Vice Provost for Global Affairs/UCIS Director and UCIS as necessary in Pittsburgh and around the world.
The performance of the Director for Global Partnerships and Partner Engagement is assessed according to measurable outcomes determined by the Vice Provost/UCIS Director and the Executive Director of Global Engagement in each of the responsibility areas. The director must develop a close and ongoing relationship with the Executive Director of Academic Affairs in order to guarantee that academic affairs and partnerships development and engagement are effectively coordinated at all necessary levels and in all necessary dimensions.
The incumbent must have adequate academic credentials, in-depth understanding of the complexities of higher education, proven international expertise, and the ability to obtain concrete and effective results in this setting, thorough understanding of international and global issues, commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence when building and strengthening international partnerships, ability to understand data collection and analysis, familiarity with assessment tools, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
