Announcement: ODOT18-2231oc Principal Planner – Planner 4 Region 1 Highway Division Portland
The Oregon Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a principal planner within the Planning Unit in the regional headquarters in Portland. The position holds a leadership role in the state's efforts to successfully integrate land use and transportation planning, especially in the Portland metropolitan area. As a multimodal subject matter expert, the incumbent guides other members of the unit in planning an equitable, safe and reliable transportation system. The successful candidate will be a member of a team serving the region's four counties: Clackamas, Hood River, Multnomah and Washington. The key responsibilities for this position include:
Leading the implementation of statewide policies and plans within Region 1, ensuring the integration of land use with multimodal transportation planning.
Serving as ODOT's liaison to the metropolitan planning organizations in the Region, including Metro and the Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council.
Leading major transportation planning and policy projects that are often complex and controversial.
Assigning and reviewing the work of senior and associate planners.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning, public administration, social science, civil engineering, architecture, economics, geography or a related field. AND Four (4) years of planning experience related to the job. Note: A master's degree in urban or regional planning, public administration, social science, civil engineering, architecture, economics, geography or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
OR Eight (8) years of planning experience related to the job.
NOTE: Course work in urban or regional planning, public administration, social science, civil engineering, architecture, economics, geography or a related field can substitute for up to two (2) year of the progressively responsible experience. Special Qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).
