The University of Maryland, Baltimore Office of Research and Development is seeking an Industry Alliances Specialist to provide business development and program support to its Industry Alliances group. Industry Alliances cultivates and provides oversight of the University's initiatives to strengthen and grow research collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and non-government organizations. Reporting to the Director of Industry Alliances, this position will coordinate operational, administrative, and facilities functions within the Office of Industry Alliances. This position will implement systems that maintain and build client collaborations and partnerships, work independently on projects that require sound judgement and ingenuity, and is expected to apply solutions to resolve non-routine matters.

Supports Industry Alliances' business development and outreach efforts to attract sponsored research opportunities and clinical trials from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and non-government agencies. In concert with the Director, is responsible for planning and hosting business events and tours of the University campus. Conducts new business and follow up outreach via email, social media platforms, phone calls and in-person visits. Schedules meetings and prepares collateral materials, updates website, and prepares presentations for meetings.
Organizes and streamlines office systems to build efficiency and a high-functioning office. Maintains and contributes to building the client relationship management (CRM) platform to track business development, funding opportunities, and outreach efforts.
Researches, synthesizes, and organizes qualitative and quantitative information from internal and external sources to report to the OIA leadership team. Tracks the growth and milestones of the business development initiatives. Reports and communicates findings orally and in writing.
Acts as intermediary for the office, interacting with UMB leadership, staff at all levels, and outside agencies. Serves as a primary contact, thinks critically to resolve questions, and make decisions to optimize communication and processes with clients.
Responsible for all office functions in support of the leadership, including coordination of project-specific schedules and all travel for office. Coordinates schedule, expenses, and meeting content with internal and external parties; responsible for administrative follow-up. Financial responsibilities include tracking expenses, submitting reports, and record keeping.
Provides planning support for board meetings, conferences, and committees including managing and maintaining communication materials and presentations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or business preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years marketing, business development, or program coordination experience. Scientific background preferred.
Other: Substitution of experience for minimum education requirement may be permitted.
Ideal candidates will be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word and familiar with social media platforms and creating marketing and outreach materials, CRM databases (i.e. Salesforce, Blackbaud, Advance), and working with business plans, budgets, and financial reports.

Requires proficiency in word processing, creating and maintaining spreadsheets, presentations, updating websites and using business development tools including a CRM system.
