Our state-of-the-art medical eye care practice is looking for a friendly, goal oriented person to join our ASC (Ambulatory Surgery Center). We have talented surgeons backed by a well-educated, friendly & caring staff.
We are looking for a Registered Nurse, Director of Nursing (RN, DON) to join our ASC. Some experience in an OR setting is preferred, but training is available for the right candidate.
Responsible for daily patient care and flow in the surgical suite in accordance with surgeons orders, recognized nursing standards, legal aspects of current nurse practice within the state and the facilities policies and procedures. the ordering of supplies, as needed, for clinical and surgical needs, as well as updating PRICING WhERE appropriate. supervision OF AND ASSISTANCE WHEN NEEDED with daily terminal cleaning of surgical suites. assess infection control standards. be knowledgeable of all instruments, medications, and machines in surgical suite. assist with the policies and procedures in the ASC and Clinic. keep equipment serviced and preventive measures up-to-date. have the ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe work environment. Have the ability to communicate with patients, coworkers and supervisors effectively. Must be willing to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time. Demonstrates initiative, insight, and judgement in decision-making process. Serves as infection control Officer, Servers as a member of the code team, Quality assurance committee as well as the Governing Body.
LIST OF RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Functions within the legal limits of nursing practice
Understands and maintains sterile techniques, ENVIRONMENTAL cleaning and proper handling of surgical equipment and instruments.
Teaching and Supervision of technical and ancillary personnel, provides guidance to other staff members, also performs OR orientation.
Documents surgiCal procedures and completes operating room records Timely and accurately.
Returns phone calls to Patients, pharmacies, and other doctors offices / facilities
maintains patient confidentiality, adhering to hipaa rules & regulations
efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories, while reassuring/Education patient regarding procedure (before, during and after surgery). Recognizes and interprets symptoms indicative of changes in condition of patient during admission.
Must perform routine operations maintenance of surgical equipment and supervise cleaning/maintenance of surgical instruments.
May participate in surgical procedures with the surgeon, assist as an instrument tray assistant and as an operating room circulating assistant as directed.
Provides necessary instruments, supplies and equipment for various operative procedures according to established ASC routine is deviated.
Perform ocular antiseptic skin preparation procedures, topical anesthetic and medication instillations and dressing applications.
Initiates IV's and administers IV sedation under direction of Physician. Is accountable for administration of drugs, IV Procedures and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures in a safe and accurate manner.
Perform safety inspections as per policies and or direction of the quality assurance committee, safety committee, and/or governing body.
Contacts sales reps to request new equipment, supplies, samples and / or assistance as needed. May negotiate facility pricing.
Maintains and stocks Operating rooms and storage areas
Maintains and cleans equipment as needed
Operates and troubleshoots specialized equipment.
May be required to organize, clean and sterilize equipment, instruments and supplies for minor procedures cases.
Responsible for doing or overseeing the ordering, receiving and recording of supply inventory including lens inventory & consignment for all locations as well as medical gases as needed.
Responsible for bio hazardous waste disposal, coordinating vendors and protocol in the ASC and clinic.
Assess infection control standards and implement/supervise adherence with continued education of staff.
In the absence of a medical doctor, is present in the asc at all times that patients are in the asc who have received preoperative medications, are in surgery, or are in the recovery areas, until patients are dismissed post-operatively.
Is responsible for drug control and accountability as well as maintaining Pharmacy contacts for improvements and compliance.
Continually re-evaluates existing operating room procedures and researches new and innovative ways to do things related to the o.r., and implements these after discussion and consultation with other staff members involved, if appropriate to do so
Assists in case reviews as well as monitoring of any post-op infections.
Assists in crash cart maintenance, emergency box and aed checks as well as completion of quality assurance logs
Oversees post-operative instructions and final dismissing of surgical patient's from the ASC
Observe and record untoward reaction to anesthetic agents or other drugs
Maintain complete and accurate pre, surgical and post operative records
Utilizes time optimally and sees that surgical staff’s time is utilized optimally.
Communicates pertinent information to co-workers.
Provides a safe environment for the patient to PREVENT potential injury. Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to practice ADMINISTRATOR and / or medical director and documents the same.
Is responsible for implementation and monitoring of all policies and procedures that will assure the provision of a functionally safe, sanitary facility, and environment in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Ensures that all surgical forms are reviewed and updated as required at least annually.
Seeks educational opportunities and accepts responsibility for own professional growth and development. participates with in-service development and staff meetings.
Coordinates training (ON/OFF-SITE) for all staff as requested ie: BCLS
Verifies all TB and Flu shots are current as requested/required
May be required to enter data to third party agencies or report to traveling hospitals

AS A CIRCULATING NURSE:
IS THE SENIOR PERSON ASSIGNED TO THE ROOM (OTHER THEN PHYSICIAN).
IS RESPONSIBLE TO MONITOR ALL PATIENTS IN THE FACILITY.
CHECKS ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE DAY NOTING ROUTINE AND SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR EACH OPERATIVE PROCEDURE.
CHECKS ROOM CLEANLINESS, ORDER AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY; ASSEMBLES EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR EACH PROCEDURE; CHECKS EQUIPMENT TO SEE THAT IT IS IN PROPER ORDER.
IDENTIFIES PATIENT ON ARRIVAL IN PRE-OP
HELPS POSITION PATIENT IN PRESCRIBED POSITION; CHECKS OPERATIVE TABLE FOR NECESSARY ACCESSORY EQUIPMENT / ADJUSTMENTS.
ASSISTS SURGICAL ASSISTANT BY OPENING STERILE PACKS AND DELIVERING NECESSARY PACKETS OF MATERIALS’ OPERATES AUTOCLAVE FOR STERILIZATION OF NECESSARY ACCESSORY ITEMS.
PREPARES THE OPERATIVE SITE BY DOING A SURGICAL SCRUB TO THE OPERATIVE AREA ACCORDING TO THE SURGEONS’ WISHES.
HELP TRANSFER PATIENT TO THE OPERATING ROOM FROM PRE-OP, GIVING ASSISTANCE TO THE SURGEON.
ENSURES COMPLETION OR ASSISTS SURGICAL ASSISTANT IN DRESSING MEMBERS OF THE OPERATING TEAM.
ARRANGE FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT IN SUCH A MANNER THAT ALL PIECES ARE ACCESSIBLE FOR EFFICIENT WORK BY THE SCRUB TECH AND SURGEON.
PREPARES ALL RECORDS PERTAINING TO THE OPERATIVE PROCEDURE.
OBSERVES PROGRESS OF THE SURGICAL PROCEDURE AND PROVIDES ADDITIONAL INSTRUMENTS, SUPPLIES OR EQUIPMENT AS NECESSARY.
OBSERVES ALL MEMBERS OF THE OPERATING TEAM FOR STERILE PRACTICES, REPORTS ANY BREAKS immediately AND TAKES STEPS TO CORRECT ANY BREAK IN STERILITY.
REMAINS CALM IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS AND INSTITUTES EMERGENCY PROCEDURES WHEN SUCH OCCASION ARISES.
LABELS SPECIMEN CONTAINERS AND PREPARES SPECIMEN FOR laboratory.
ASSEMBLES INSTRUMENTS, SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT FOR FOLLOWING CASES.
HELPS TRANSFER PATIENT TO RECOVERY/POST-OP FOLLOWING OPERATION.
DIRECTS AND ASSISTS WITH THE CLEANING AND PREPARATION OF THE OPERATING ROOM BETWEEN CASES.
DIRECTS AND ASSISTS WITH CLEANING AND RESTOCKING OF OPERATING ROOM AT COMPLETION OF ASSIGNMENT.
AS THE PRE-OP NURSE:
ASCERTAIN THAT THERE IS AN APPROPRIATE PREANESTHETIC EXAMINATION, RECORDED ON the PATIENT’S CHART BY THE SURGEON.
REVIEW THE PATIENT’S MEDICAL AND SURGICAL HISTORY. INFORM SURGEON OF ANYTHING OF CONCERN.
ASSIST SURGEON IN PERFORMANCE OF ANY ANESTHESIA BLOCKS OR SEDATION IF APPLICABLE, MONITOR PATIENT STATUS.
OBSERVE AND RECORD UNTOWARD REACTIONS
MAINTAIN COMPLETE AND ACCURATE PRE-OP RECORDS including appropriate consents
VERIFY SITE OF CONSENTED PROCEDURE.
ACCOMPANY THE PATIENT TO THE OR AND REMAIN WITH THE PATIENT UNTIL A FULL REPORT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO THE CIRCULATING NURSE.
AS THE POST-OP NURSE:
OVERSEES ADMISSION, ASSESSMENT AND PREPARATION OF PATIENT.
RECEIVE PATIENT FROM SURGERY AND EVALUATES NEEDS OF PATIENT, ADMINISTERING, AND OVERSEEING CARE ACCORDINGLY. COMPARES STABILITY OF VITAL SIGNS WITH PRE-OP TO ESTABLISH PARAMETERS.
OVERSEES ASSESSMENT OF PATIENT AND DOCUMENTS PATIENT STATUS.
OVERSEES AND CARRIES OUT TREATMENTS AND / OR ORDERS.
CONSULTS PATIENT’S PHYSICIAN AS INDICATED.
GIVES OR OVERSEES ALL POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS.
DISCHARGES PATIENT FROM ASC ACCORDING TO ASC PROTOCOL.
Director of nursing (DON) has all RESPONSIBILITIES as the registered nurse plus: acting with the medical director, is responsible for the safe, effective, and COST-EFFICIENT nursing care provided to the patient in the asc setting. the don is responsible for the education, development, implementation and administration of the asc policies and procedures. ultimate responsibility of drug ACCOUNTABILITY, staff education in Conjunction with the practice administrator, all tb and flu shot records with outside agencies. Interacts with physician to maintain the integrity of the schedule. Carefully monitors high risk and high volume medical legal issues, to include safety, infection control, performance improvements and hazardous waster issues to ensure compliance to established policies and procedures.

TRAVEL WILL BE REQUIRED TO OUR SATELLITED OFFICES (Lander, WY; Thermopolis, WY plus any additional we may add) IN ROTATION WITH OTHER RN.
Hours may vary 6a-6p M-F, however it is usually a standard shift with Fridays off No Nights or Weekends scheduled unless special function.
