We are seeking a seasoned, experienced student services professional to help advance our mission by providing high-quality recruitment, admissions and academic advising specifically targeted to nontraditional or underrepresented audiences, including qualified professionals currently working in the field of social work. The Master’s Programs Advisor will provide a full range of student services to prospective applicants and students matriculating into Social Welfare master’s programs, including concurrent degree programs and new “FlexMSW” options anticipated to launch in Fall 2020.
Using skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, the Master’s Programs Advisor independently advises applicants and students on options, policies and procedures for pursuing the professional Master of Social Welfare (MSW) degree. Key responsibilities include:
Academic Advising (40%) •Advises Social Welfare master’s programs students on requirements for degree completion. •Serves as lead Enrollment Manager for master’s program courses. •Advises faculty, students and staff on departmental and university policies and procedures governing graduate degrees. •Advises students on financial aid options including campus and extramural fellowship opportunities. •Identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions. •Develops, produces and maintains print and electronic advising materials and program handbooks. •In collaboration with Assistant Director of Admissions and Student Services, Identifies master’s programs needs and trends, evaluates effectiveness of graduate student advising; and makes recommendations to Director of Admissions and Student Services.
Recruitment and Admissions (40%) •Advises prospective master’s programs applicants on necessary academic preparation and appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals. •Plans and implements outreach programs with specific target audiences. •Plans, develops and presents admissions recruiting workshops to employers and professional organizations. •Manages application and admissions process for concurrent degree and FlexMSW part-time MSW, and FlexMSW advanced standing programs; assists in evaluation and ranking of applicants for admission. •Develops, produces and maintains print and electronic program outreach and promotional materials. •In collaboration with Graduate Admissions Advisor, evaluates effectiveness of recruiting and admissions and makes recommendations to enhance yield of nontraditional, underrepresented, and working professional students.
Events (20%) •Plans, designs, and provides workshops for prospective applicants and current students, such as information about the campus, admissions application workshops, or academic strategies and enrichment programs, and new student orientation activities.•Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. •Comprehensive knowledge of graduate professional degree programs. •Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communications skills. •Ability to develop and design effective informational and promotional materials. •Knowledge of the field's post-degree employment opportunities and practices. •Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and student information systems, including Oracle Campus Solutions and Technolutions Slate or similar systems. •Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. •Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. •Ability in problem identification, reasoning. •Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. •Interpersonal skills. Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations. •Demonstrated reliability including ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work independently. •Absolute ability to maintain confidentiality. This is a full-time, 2-year contract position, renewable dependent on funding.
