UW Medicine Finance has an outstanding opportunity for a Budget & Planning Director. This individual will plan, direct, and organize the budgeting and long range financial planning for the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) and the Northwest Hospital and Medical Center (NWH). This individual is a key member of the financial leadership team and serves as an advisor to the administrative and operating teams for the two Medical Centers. With a focus on long range financial planning and development of the annual operating and capital budgets, the Budget & Planning Director directs the development and maintenance of multi-year, annual, and monthly key operating metrics, identifying underlying critical issues and, working with the entity and enterprise-level administrative and operational teams, communicates, implements and integrates necessary processes and procedures to establish fiscal accountability, achieve strategic goals, improve operating performance and reduce costs.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESBudget and Long Range Financial Plan Development:Oversees planning, scheduling and development of the long range financial plan, annual operating and capital budgets for UWMC and NWH, ensuring relevance and consistency as well as providing a common technology platform, approach and set of assumptions for the entities. Establishes both entity and campus-level review and approval hierarchy of decision-making for long range planning, budgets and financial analysis.Participates in the design and implementation of appropriate long range planning and consolidated budgeting systems and policies across the all UW Medicine operational and business units. Assures that a high level of service and consistency is achieved.Under the direction of the UWM Budget and Planning Director, assists with the development and execution of expectations around budget accountability. Provides analytic and system support to managers in the review, understanding and mitigation of budget variances in support of improving overall profitability. Provides subject matter expertise and leadership in the planning, design and implementation of the enterprise budgeting and financial reporting systems.Participates in budgeting and reporting standardization projects between health system entities.Management Reporting and Financial Performance Improvement: Oversees development of reports and tools for measuring productivity and/or profitability against budget and financial targets at departmental, Campus and Entity level. Has accountability for providing entity-level support around the interpretation and use of management reporting.Participates in the development and implementation of quality and service metrics and standards. Coordinates with department heads, division chiefs and system administration officials to determine the best methods and procedures for providing relevant and user-friendly performance reporting.Creates standard and ad-hoc reporting tools for efficiently accumulating, analyzing and reporting financial information consistently from various source systems for the Medical Centers.Prepares and presents written and verbal reports to executive management, Finance Committees and governing Boards as requested.Other Accountability:Hires, trains, mentors and motivates staff in a manner that attracts and retains strong performers, encourages innovation and recognizes excellence. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.In-depth knowledge of hospital accounting; current in new regulations and trends is required.Strong skill level in using Budgeting, Performance Management and General Ledger applications as well as supporting software programs, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.DESIRED:Academic Medical Center experience. CPA and MBA in business or healthcare administration.
