This role acts as a CFO for our non-profit clients but is a Manager in our accounting firm. We handle the accounting operations of our non-profit clients. Managers are assigned as CFO for these clients and ensure the accounting and finance services they have contracted Vanderloo for are delivered. This includes functioning as a CFO as well as consultant to the client.The clients are all over Chicago city neighborhoods. This position may manage accountants onsite and the support team in India. Our CFOs have the benefit of being a valued CFO at client sites and valued leader within our firm and as part of our team. This is senior leader role with the firm.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Manager ("Manager" is internal firm title; "CFO" title at client sites)
Manage client relationship ensuring all deliverables are met
Oversee following specific client month-end close activities and financial statement preparation
Month end journal entries
Maintain all balance sheet schedules
Reconciliation of bank, investment and other necessary general ledger accounts
Preparation of financial package
Preparation of government and private funder reports
Prepare extensive analysis as needed
Prepare for and facilitate client audits collaborating with audit firms as needed
Facilitate preparation of budgets, cash flow forecasts
Support non-profit finance and accounting operations troubleshooting issues and improving processes
Advise on policies and procedures and implement and document them
Supervise accountants and shared service staff on specific tasks or projects
Lead implementation of new services, systems and procedures with best practice consulting methodologies
Act as a collaborative leader in the firm
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required for Manager / CFO Role
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
CPA preferred but not required
General ledger software experience (any system)
Minimum of three years’ experience in accounting management (audit, consulting or internal operations)
Excellent communication skills
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
Understanding of monthly close process and financial statement analysis
Must be detailed oriented
Must be willing to be more than a CFO. We are consultants and experts our clients rely on.
General Work Conditions
Work performed from varying Chicago area sites as work dictates.
Nature of work requires ability to operate standard business office equipment, travel to Chicagoland client sites or meetings carrying documents and laptop, computer work and file maintenance.
