FIT Athletics & Recreation, an NJCAA DIII member institution, aims to support Fashion Institute of Technology in its mission to produce self-reliant graduates who are poised for a lifetime of success, and who will be a credit to the institution, their communities and the world. The department mission is to operate athletic and recreation programs reflective of the campus community which foster holistic development of the individual including academic, athletic, professional and personal aspects of the self.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation will assist with overall administration of department functions while promoting the department mission and upholding the mission and policies of Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). The Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation will mainly be responsible for compliance, scheduling, and facility management, but will also play a key role in implementing / assessing special projects and initiatives aimed at department growth and student development. The role is critical to the support of FIT's Institutional Strategic Plan, with a particular focus on creating an empowering student experience.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
Ensure department-wide compliance with state and federal laws as well as NJCAA, Region XV, FIT and Department of Athletics and Recreation bylaws and policies.
Prepare NJCAA eligibility files, make determinations on student-athlete eligibility in compliance with NJCAA / Region XV bylaws and certify athletic department eligibility on the NJCAA website.
Maintain internal compliance with required trainings / certifications for employees and student-athletes on topics including but not limited to: Title IX, Campus Security Act, Clery Act, CPR/AED, workplace violence, employee code of ethical conduct, preventing discrimination, equipment use and game official evaluations.
Organize and maintain department records as per the New York State Archives MI-1 record retention schedule.
Supervise the Fitness Coordinator, and ensure fitness operations are meeting student needs in the area of holistic health and wellness.
Work with external agencies to arrange facility rentals for athletic team practices and competitions.
Coordinate the use of athletic facilities and respond to facility requests from internal and external entities.
Work with coaches and other institutions to schedule intercollegiate athletic contests and maintain game contracts.
Schedule event staff, game officials and athletic trainers for contests and special athletic events; directly supervise or assign a site supervisor for all home contests.
Schedule table staff, mascot and staff DJ for special campus events.
Assist in implementation of special department initiatives and projects.
Oversee assessment of department initiatives via updating / creating assessment instruments, overseeing distribution and data collection, analyzing trends in data, and reporting findings to the department director.
Nominate student-athletes for national, regional and institution level athletic and academic awards.
Engage in continuous professional development to help department reach growth objectives.
Collaborate with various campus departments and serve on committees as assigned.
Attend regional and national meetings in the absence of the department director.
Assist with preparations for annual athletics award ceremony.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree or higher in athletic administration, business management or related field of study required.
Two years of professional compliance experience in Higher Education Athletics required.
Compliance experience on the NJCAA level strongly preferred.
Keen attention to detail, and outstanding managerial, organizational, technological and verbal/written communication skills required.
Genuine interest and satisfaction in working with students, faculty, and staff, especially in the area of holistic health and wellness required.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism required.
Occasional availability to travel and / or work evenings and weekends as needed required
Valid driver's license, in good standing required.
Starting Salary $61,613 (93/0)
