Position responsibilities include teaching, scholarly activity, student development, and service to the university and community. The faculty member should anticipate involvement with interdisciplinary teaching and work collaboratively with other faculty members to update curriculum.
This position will be teaching undergraduate courses in the mass communication and marketing communication degree programs. Depending on individual qualifications, candidates will be expected to teach in the following areas: media literacy, advertising, public relations, media writing and media ethics and law. Additional courses may be taught in candidate's area of specialty.
Contribute to a program of scholarship within the discipline, service to the University and community, and other associated faculty duties.
Advise undergraduate students by: working with student media, providing career counseling, assisting students in course work/academic schedule planning, writing letters of recommendation and maintaining appropriate office hours.
Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support Bemidji State University's signature themes: Environmental stewardship, Civic engagement, Global/Multicultural Understanding.
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.
Master's degree in Mass Communication, or in areas of public relations, marketing, advertising or closely related field required.
Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching is required.
Skills/ability to design and deliver courses with Desire To Learn (D2L) software.
Professional experience in marketing, advertising, mass communication desired or closely related field.
Demonstrated effectiveness in university-level teaching in course content such as: media literacy, advertising, public relations, media writing and media ethics and law.
Demonstrated significant professional experience in marketing, advertising, mass communication or closely related field.
Earned doctorate or other terminal degree (or ABD) in Mass Communication, in areas of public relations, marketing, advertising or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution at the start of employment is preferred.
Demonstrated experience working with and/or interest working with students and colleagues from multi-cultural and diverse backgrounds and using culturally responsive pedagogy and practice
