Performs highly responsible managerial, administrative and professional work in assisting the Department General Manager or designee in the planning, design, construction, use, operation and maintenance of New Castle County parks, open space and greenways; does related work as required.
An employee in this class is responsible for master planning, project design, operating and maintenance of County parks, open space and greenways in addition to supervising all Parks Division staff. Work is performed under general direction and is reviewed through conferences, reports and the evaluation of results achieved. Assignments are broad in scope and considerable independent judgment is required. Additional responsibilities include coordinating park-related activities with the Community Services Department as necessary, working with policy makers, legislators, other government agencies, technical and professional organizations, and the public. This employee works under the general direction of the Public Works Department General Manager.
At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the area of park planning, design and maintenance. Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in landscape architecture, park management or related field; or an equivalent combination of experience, education or training directly related to the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid Delaware Class D driver's license or its equivalent. Must pass a Class III County physical examination and background check
