International Education Programs (IEP) at the University of California Riverside is one of the largest and most respected international education programs in the US. IEP provides a variety of educational offerings, including a multi-level English as a Second Language program, concurrent enrollment, postgraduate certificates/diplomas, pathway programs and custom programs for an average of 4,000 visiting international students per year.
Under supervision from the Senior International Student Advisor, the International Student Advisor serves as an authorized Designated School Official (DSO) and the primary advisor for F-1 students, faculty, and public participating in the International Education Programs at UCR Extension. The advisor maintains accurate and complete student records as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of State (DOS), and Department of Education (DOE). Communicates with students and staff regarding federal regulations as they pertain to program participants and institutional policies. Develops and implements resources, materials, and presentations to effectively provide information to students and exchange visitors regarding relevant rules and regulations for F-1, B1/B2, visa waiver, and other visa holders throughout their participation in the program. Stays current with federal regulations and guidance through participation in government webinars, NAFSA forums, and conferences. Counsels students regarding nonimmigrant status issues including nonimmigrant documents, school transfer, program change/extension, travel, termination, and withdrawal. Additionally, the advisor delivers quarterly workshops and orientations on international student rights and responsibilities, practical training, and other topics, as required. Assists students in obtaining resources to overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their immigration or educational situations. Provides nonimmigrant crisis intervention to students and exchange visitors when academic, attendance, or behavioral issues may effect status. Provides professional support for all other facets of student services in the International Education Programs. Ensures maintenance of long term working relationships with institutional partners, government entities (state and federal), other UCR campus offices, and other universities.
