Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Academic Programs and Dean, University College and Graduate Studies, the Associate Dean for University College is responsible for providing leadership and management of programs and services of the Center for Advising, Career, and Student Success (CACSS), ensuring compliance with policies and processes, including the refinement of business processes in collaboration with University partners to support student and employee success. The Associate Dean is a key partner in designing, implementing, and assessing efforts related to the CSUMB Otter Promise, in support of student success goals. The incumbent must have a clear understanding of advising, retention, and student support services as an integral part of the University’s mission.
ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide strong, dynamic academic and administrative leadership that fosters a collegial environment. Provides overall direction and leadership for Academic Advising, Career Advising, and Student Success retention services, including Early Alert. Establishes and facilitates department goals and objectives that will enhance the effectiveness and integration of services to students in the areas of academic advising, career advising, and retention services.
In collaboration with University College units, International Programs, Library, Colleges, Student Affairs, Enrollment Services, and Administration and Finance, University Communications, and community college partners, designs, implements, and sustains efforts in support of University-wide efforts to improve policy, process, and outcomes for transfer students and other populations identified within the Otter Promise.
Ensures the implementation and support for a comprehensive assessment plan to gauge the impact of programs and services provided by the Center. Compiles reports detailing relevant and useful findings from research and analysis of internal and external data, and makes recommendations for continuous improvement of advising and student success initiatives.
Develops the Center’s budget plan and manages the department’s financial resources.
Ensures efficient and effective communication of information related to advising and other student services matters throughout the University.
Provides leadership with programs and other initiatives related to the Graduation Initiative with advising, career, and/or student success implications as assigned to unit.
Collaborates with College Deans, Associate Deans, and chairs to ensure high-quality, consistent advising in all areas of focus within the Center.
Maintains and supports positive collaborations with Enrollment Services and Student Affairs units.
Collaborates with campus partners in grant and external funding opportunities.
Provides administrative oversight for work of the Associate Director for CACSS, the unit coordinators, and Center advisors in all three areas of focus.
In consultation with the Dean, assists with strategic planning and provides leadership for college-wide initiatives aligned with the College’s Mission and Vision.
Acts as Administrator-in-charge for Academic Programs, University College, and Graduate Studies in absence of the Associate Vice President and Dean.
Provides oversight for the management of existing office and meeting space for Center, and assists the Dean in planning for renovated and/or new facilities.
Represents the Dean and contributes professional expertise to University and ad-hoc committees as assigned.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
Terminal Degree and five (5) years of experience in progressive responsibilities supervising academic advising services or retention services in a post-secondary educational institution. Direct experience planning and managing program budgets.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority, will be required to participate in annual training, and to immediately forward to the Clery Director all reports of crimes brought to their attention pursuant to the Clery Act and California State Education Code, Chapter 16, of the Donahue Higher Education Act, Section 67380.
This position may require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer/video display terminal and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
